New Laptop

Hi all,

I posted a few months ago because I was looking at purchasing a new laptop. At the time the 8th gen intels were on the horizon and I opted to hold fire until they were released.

I wondered if anyone could advise the following;

Having seen the performance of the 8th gen processors is it worth building a system with a 1060 graphics card and an i7-8 or opting for a better graphics card 1070/80 and sacrificing the cpu back down to a 7th generation?

I love gaming but don't pretend to know anything about hardware to any kind of advanced standard! I would also be keen to have opinion on a 144hz display - are they worth it?

Any examples of builds would be much appreciated - I am looking to spend up to £1200 (at a push) so I don't really want to push further, but I am keen to play titles such as GTA and The Division and Total War at the higher end settings.

Thanks in advance!!

PCS aren't selling any 7th Gen CPU laptops any more.

Also, the 8th gen CPUs weren't meaningfully more expensive.

You're not going to get GTX 1070 and 144hz for £1200. That's a fantasy I'm afraid. Or maybe a carefully tuned desktop PC.

For £1200 and a GTX 1070:

Unique URL to re-configure : https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/proteusvi-15/bD9weZ3thd/

It has a displayport output apparently so you could always get a 144hz external monitor if you wanted.

For GTX 1070 and 144hz gsync screen, check: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers-for-next-day-delivery/802/

Which is inexplicable £100+ cheaper than if you manually configured the spec (?)

You can do your own comparison shopping of course, but having just had a quick look on the web I think I'd be surprised if you found similar for anywhere near £1350.
