Advice needed for a computer please

So yeah. I'm looking for advice because i don't have much knowledge at all about computer hardware :sweatdrop:
This would only be used for gaming. Final Fantasy 14 is pretty much the only game i play.
I'm moving on from my laptop to desktop.

So far i have a GTX 970, and a monitor which is capable of 1080p and 144hz. (i'm happy with this)
I would like advice on a desktop that will be slightly future proof, and i'm not talking 4k 60fps+.

My budget doesn't really exist, but i'd rather not spend too much. Maybe between the £200 - £400 mark.

Thank you very much for reading, i look forward to any replies.

That's not going to happen I'm afraid. £200 for a PC of the kind you're looking for is risible, £400 is below what it is sensible to spend.

While PCS only sell complete systems rather than individual parts, looking at the prices individual parts gives an idea of why that's not going to happen:

Windows £90
Case £25+
basic storage £40+
8gb RAM ~£60
motherboard ~£50
PSU £30+
Cheap, cheap CPU £50+

That's bargain basement for all the above. For even a bit futureproof, you'll want to spend more on the case, PSU, motherboard, and CPU.

e.g.

Case
GAME MAX FALCON BLACK GAMING CASE (RGB LED)
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 3 2200G Quad Core CPU with Vega Graphics (3.5GHz-3.7GHz/6MB CACHE/AM4)
Motherboard

The CPU itself is adequate for modern gaming, but no more and not terribly futureproof. However, you'd need to spend a heck of a lot more to get a futureproof CPU, so instead this is about the cheapest CPU available that doesn't suck. On the assumption that you'll upgrade to to a Ryzen 2 CPU when those release next year.

Ryzen 2 should be compatible with B450 motherboards. The case and PSU should support a range of CPU, graphics, and storage upgrades.

You could buy a cheaper case, but it will severely limit cooling and/or size of GPUs it can accommodate. You could buy 4gb RAM but some games won't run properly / at all. You could buy a 350W PSU, hope your 970's power draw is one of the low ones, and rule out most higher end GPUs as potential future upgrades. You could get a cheaper motherboard, which could undermine memory upgrade options and chop off a lot of very useful features.

If FFXIV ran on Linux and that's your only game I'd suggest not getting a Windows key and going with Linux but afaik I don't other than with some fiddling via Wine.

The alternative is you sell your GTX 970 before the bottom falls out completely from its value and buy a PS4 to play final fantasy on. Or you buy a PC 2nd hand I suppose.
