PSU Confusion

Hi everyone.

I have been scouring the internet for any information on my problem, and can't find an answer, so here goes.

My current 600w power supply only has an ATX 12v 2x2 (4pin) and the new mobo I'm looking at getting has ATX 12v 2x2 (4) AND an ATX 12v 2x4 (8 pin). The manual says nothing about using either, or, or both. Can I use only the 4 pin slot on my new mobo (which would be compatible with my current PSU) or what?

These are/will be me new spec: Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X, Intel Core i7-8700, 32GB DDR4 RAM, GeForce GTX 1050Ti.

P.s. I will NOT be overclocking.

Alex.

The forums belong to PC Specialist who build and sell custom PCs and laptop, and as such users aren't able to advise on self-build projects or competitors' products. You could try and open forum like Tom's Hardware.

Apologies. Was looking to get a PSU if need be from PCSpecialist but I'll give it a miss if that's the response. Cheers.

I don't work for PCS. They don't sell components other than certain items as upgrades to people with systems built and sold by PCS. That's why I suggested Tom's hardware - to at least signpost you rather than just straight up tell you no.

Thankfully your attitude isn't representative of most people who come here in error, or else none of us would bother signposting. Since the mods don't work for PCS, we don't actually care if you shop with them or elsewhere, so waving potential custom - which in any event you couldn't give to PCS - as a flag of self-importance doesn't mean you'll suddenly get some sort of previously-hidden VIP treatment we were holding out on - or people breaking forum rules to help you with a self build hardware purchase question.

Tip for when you try Tom's Hardware. Don't let on how you treat people who try to reply as helpfully or as politely as possible, or else they probably won't help you either - even though they're actually allowed to help you...
