What do I need to upgrade - or do I need a new machine?

I am not that great at messing about with my PC - but I have upgraded the CPU and graphics cards since I bought my PC from PCS in 2010. Sorry for any stupid questions.

I pretty much upgrade stuff when I can't play a new game I want on my current setup. I now can't play Forza Horizon 4 - CPU not good enough.

It's recommending Intel i7-3820 @ 3.6Ghz and I still have Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz, 3074 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

I don't think my motherboard - Asustek P6X58D-E will take the new CPU.

So 2 Q's:

1) Do I need a new motherboard - if so what?
2) Do I need a new GPU? - have AMD Radeon R9 380

Any help welcomed!

Have you tried playing it already? Do you get error messages? What do they say?

Who says the CPU is not good enough?

If you've not tried it already, have you tried the demo?

The system requirements listed by games are, at best, a guideline.

Your current CPU is actually not far off the i3 they give as a guideline minimum for single threaded performance, and due to being a quad core is a lot better for multithreaded workloads:

There are occasionally games that don't run on older Intel Core CPUs due to needing features they don't have e.g. AC Odyssey needing AVX, but that's pretty uncommon.

Thanks Oussebon. Much appreciated.

Cheers for the info - I hadn't thought of trying the demo! Doh.

I'll have a go at that and report back.

Cheers
