My GIGABYTE motherboard beeps!

What does BIOS beep sound mean?
The computer POST (power-on self-test) checks a computer's internal hardware for compatibility and connection before starting the remainder of the boot process. If the computer passes the POST, the computer may give a single beep.
However, if the computer fails the POST, the computer will either not beep or generate a beep code that tells us what the issue is.
You should always reference your motherboard's manual to be sure but we do have a list of the most common beeps for you.

AWARD BIOS
Motherboard manufacturers have created custom BIOS software based on the AwardBIOS system. The beep codes from an AwardBIOS-based BIOS may be the same as the original AwardBIOS beep codes (below) or they may vary a little.

1 short beep :System normal
A single, short beep from an Award based BIOS is actually an "all systems clear" notification. In other words, this is a beep code you want to hear and that you've probably been hearing each time your computer comes on since the day you purchased it. No troubleshooting necessary!

2 short beep :CMOS Error
You can try to reseat the CMOS, which is best done for at least 15 minutes. CMOS batteries have roughly a lifespan of 5 years, so it might be time to replace it, depending on your systems age. They are fairly cheap and easy to order online, just make sure it’s exactly the same type of battery (check the engraving on it for the type-number).

1 long beep and 1 short beep:Memory error
Please reseat the RAM sticks or try them one by one to see if one of the sticks is faulty. If so, the system should run fine without said stick, which would then have to be replaced.

1 long beep and 2 short beep:Graphic card error
One long beep followed by two short beeps indicates that there has been some kind of error with the video card. Replacing the video card is usually the most you'll have to do to fix this one.
Here is our video on how to reseat a GPU: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqnY...ature=youtu.be

1 long beep and 3 short beep :AGP error
The Graphics card is not detected and as a first step, try reseating it. Hopefully pushing it firmly back into the slot will do the trick. If not, ring us as we’d check the card itself.

1 long beep and 9 short beep :Memory Error
Please reseat the RAM sticks or try them one by one to see if one of the sticks is faulty. If so, the system should run fine without said stick, which would then have to be replaced.

Continuous long beep :Memory not correctly installed
Please reseat the RAM sticks or try them one by one to see if one of the sticks is faulty. If so, the system should run fine without said stick, which would then have to be replaced.

Continuous short beep :Power supply unit failed
This is unfortunately something where nothing short of replacing the power supply itself helps. At this point it’s best to give us a ring.

AMI BIOS
American Megatrends Incorporated is an American hardware and software company, specializing in PC hardware and firmware. They use their own beep codes:

1 short beep :Memory Error
Please reseat the RAM sticks or try them one by one to see if one of the sticks is faulty. If so, the system should run fine without said stick, which would then have to be replaced.

2 short beep:Memory parity check error
Reseat the memory.
Make sure that the contacts on the memory and the socket are clean.
Try removing one bank of memory modules at a time. (Some systems can require a memory module in Bank 0, check your manual)
Try using memory modules from the same manufacturer with the same part number and speed.
Check for a faulty memory module by trying the memory in a known good system.

3 short beep :basic memory 64K address check error
Reseat the memory.
Make sure that the contacts on the memory and the socket are clean.
Try removing one bank of memory modules at a time. (Some systems can require a memory module in Bank 0, check your manual)
Try using memory modules from the same manufacturer with the same part number and speed.
Check for a faulty memory module by trying the memory in a known good system.

4 short beep :Real Time Clock malfunction.
This is a tricky one, for most people it helps to reseat both the CMOS Battery and the graphics card.

5 short beep :CPU error
The CPU, the heart of your system, is a vital part and we do not recommend you try to reseat this at home. Please give us a ring, we will most likely have to book your system in for a repair.

6 short beep:Keyboard error
This beep code is usually caused by an expansion card that has failed or a motherboard that is no longer working. If that doesn't work, reseat or replace any expansion cards. Lastly, you might be dealing with an issue severe enough that you'll need to contact us for an RMA.

7 short beep :CPU interruption error
This AMI beep code could be caused by an expansion card problem, a motherboard hardware issue, or a damaged CPU. Replacing the whatever faulty hardware is causing the problem is usually the fix for this beep code.

8 short beep:Graphic card error
This beep code is usually caused by a faulty video card. Replacing the video card usually clears this up but be sure to make sure it's sitting properly in its expansion slot before buying a replacement. Sometimes this AMI beep code is due to just a loose card.

9 short beep :Memory error
You can try clearing CMOS first. If you're lucky, that'll take care of the problem for free. Literally, this would indicate an issue with the BIOS chip on the motherboard. However, we do not recommend you “play around” in BIOS at all. Ring us!

10 short beep :CMOS error
This beep code is usually caused by a hardware issue with the AMI BIOS chip. A motherboard replacement will usually solve this problem, although it could be caused by a damaged expansion card in very rare situations. This is again something you have to ring us for.

11 short beep :CPU cache memory malfunction
Eleven short beeps means that the cache memory test has failed. Some piece of essential failing hardware is usually to blame for this AMI BIOS beep code. Often times it's the motherboard.
