Nvme Ssd put in the wrong m2 slot

Hello

Received my pc in quick order. I did my research on each part before ordering, so i saw that with gigabyte x470 ultra gaming board, only the top slot gives full speed and second slot is maxed at 1800-1600mb read write. So i was hoping pc specialist would know what they are doing, afteral they make loads of pc every week so they should know their boards and hardware they offer.
So i was scared that they would put it in the wrong slot and was thinking to contact them about it. But i put my trust in them thinking they look knowledgable and should know this, if i a total semi-noob could figure it out, they certainly should.

So after receiving my pc, doom hits, the samsung 970 nvme is put in the second slot, losing most of his speed by half. It makes no sense to put it in that slot unless u buy a **** nvme that has around the capped speed. from 3500mb 2500mb read write.

What i want to know why the hell isnt your employee instructed to put it in the right slot, why dont i have the option to select which slot the nvme is put in during the order process. Why do u call yourself pcspecialist when u cant be trusted to put a simple ssd in the slot that gives it its speed!!! Did the employee make a mistake or does pcspecialist does not take any care on this subject. Offcourse most people wont notice this unless they know about it or tested the samung software for speed check.

Overall im still happy with the quality of the pc, but lesson learned, never put your trust into any person or company. The only mistake to be made putting the pc together was using the wrong slot and they managed it. Everything else is a nobrainer if u connect the right cords.

So yes fix this issue for future customers, because im sure alot of your customers probably have their nvme in wrong slots, its still works fine, but waste of money buying a higher end nvme. Basicly no excuse to make a mistake this stupid sadly, shame..shame.shame

Greetings

I can understand how this would upset you, I really can - I have the same motherboard & 970 evo on order currently!

Please help me out:

How easy a mistake is this to make (I screw up at work often, so this is an honest question)?

How easy a mistake is this to fix (if mine arrives the same, what am I looking at in terms of sorting it it out - can I just pop it into the faster slot)?

Any company can screw up (certainly any that employs me), I tend to judge them more by how they fix things when they screw up.

Yes.

I can't remember the layout of the motherboard, sometimes one of the slots it hidden behind the GPU, but even if so, just pop the GPU out, swap M.2 SSD, and replace GPU.

This. As someone who has seen a lot of companies including PCS, and public bodies make mistakes, ultimately it's their attitude about putting things right.

Unless they make lots of mistakes they shouldn't all the time, but I don't think PCS do, certainly versus other outfits I can think of.

I'd suggest you give PCS a call Online Alien. The forums are mostly for users to discuss builds and PCS staff may not see your post, and this is certainly something that is best properly drawn to their attention.

I would call them and check if they put it in the correct slot, if yours hasnt been shipped yet.

I paid them to put my pc together so i don't have to touch it afterwards. U never know if somethings messes up, then u can return the pc, u just got.

Problem is, the top slot has a heatsink on it, do u just put it over the m2 or does it slide over and need to be attached to it. And yes u need to remove the gpu to have acces to it. Also wondering if the boot on pc needs to be changed from second to first slot or if boot will search for nvme.

Yes, its easy to fix , but things are also easy to break, so the whole point of buying a pc, is so u don't have to do any extra work on it.

But yes, ill wait and see if this type of method is their company policy or if it was a mistake. Mostly annoying.

Hello OnlineAlien,

I am sorry to hear about this and I can confirm it is not our policy to fit it in the wrong port. Could you PM me (or Shepard) your order number so I can look into who built it and make sure it does not happen again.

Although you say it is not your policy to fit it in the wrong port, my custom PC arrived with the same problem, so the mistake is not an isolated one.

I would suggest that you should also PM either moosEh or Shepard with your order number, and let them know you have the same issue. It might be the same person who built both, in which case PCS can ensure it doesn't happen again.

I've just received my new bulid and found the m.2 is in the second slot as well. Now I am going to have to look up the specs on the board and check if this has the same issue. Sigh, I had such good high hopes for PCS but this is the second, possibly third issue I have come accross in the couple hours since it arrived.

I don't have any solutions to advise but I have to admit to having a little chuckle at the idea of 1600mb/s being slow :D
