I’ve ordered the Black Friday recoil II offer.

My circa 2012 Vortex III keeps shutting itself down randomly, I took it into a local pc repairers to get looked at, after 10 days of no contact from them I walked into the shop and took it back from them, they didn’t know what was wrong with it..possibly a component on the motherboard they said.
A quick call to PCS repair dept and they told me that they no longer have the motherboards for the VORTEX III and it would be difficult/expensive to do anything else with it. So, sadly, it’ll be going to an internet auction site shortly..

So, on Friday I saw the offer for the RECOIL II £1299 and ordered it. I thought it looked like a good deal and hopefully I haven’t been taken in by the flashing lights of the Black Friday sale!
17.3" Matte Full HD 144Hz Screen
Intel® Core™ i7-8750H Six Core Processor
16GB Corsair DDR4 RAM (2 x 8GB)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060
256GB Intel® 760p M.2 NVMe SSD
1TB Seagate HDD

Hopefully they’ve got tons of these made up and they can just ship straight out, two weeks without playing ‘war thunder’ is driving me insane, just makes me realise how crap TV is!

I’m also looking forward to playing Battlefield V. And the free call of duty game that comes with it.

This will be my first time with a SSD.. I am having the OS put on there as recommended by PCS, as for other things like games etc. Should I put them on the 1TB Seagate HDD or put them onto the SSD. Do games run better from the SSD? I dunno, like I said it’s the first time with SSD.

I ordered that as well, last Monday. It's been in testing since the 22nd, and I'm waiting with baited breath for the dispatch notice.

It’s taking some testing, I wonder if the tester is playing the FREE Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 & More w/ select Intel CPUs! on your laptop haha, btw I wonder what the ‘& More’ bit refers to?
It’s a bit of a Billy bonus getting the COD BO4 it is almost £50 to buy..

You never know. Suspect the '& more' is either COD points, or something like the pre order bonus - which IIRC was a skin for a specialist of your choosing.

Actually, yes I have a little bit. Just need to try and get a working from home day for the delivery. I'll be sure to grab some pictures while I'm unboxing ready for a quick review.

Not 100% on the free games, but I think it might be COD, Killing Floor 2, Evasion, and maybe an adobe software bundle?

The laptop has arrived, and I've ran through the initial setup - and I must say, so far through the very limited use I'm a fan. I'm finding that the keyboard is nice and easy to type with - no struggling along there, it's very clicky, and I don't really mind that. Screen looks very good to me as well.

The fans are going mental, though. Is this typical when the machines first arrive? Can't say I've been stressing it - installed a couple of apps that I'll need for work (Slack, OpenVPN, nothing major), but the fans are very very audible.

I'll have more time over the weekend to play around more and write up a proper review in it's own thread.

Turns out that I'd hit the fan boost button... Clicked it, turned it off, and silence.

Haha, glad to hear it’s arrived, I watched a few you tube reviews today and learned about the fan boost, one guy said that button can get very hot due to the exhaust channels being under there, also the fans do run up even when it’s idle..I guess they are just doing their job. The actual laptop is good at keeping cool apparently. I think I will get a decent cooling pad though just to help it out, anyone got any recommendations for a 17.3”..

Hopefully mine won’t be too long now, it changed to ‘in building’ today which means it is built if you look at the flow chart, I guess it’s gonna be tested tomorrow etc. I don’t think I’ll get it for the weekend now.

I added the 1yr dead pixel guarantee earlier today, it cost me £24 instead of £19 as there is a £5 amendments charge! Bit of a heads up for everyone, try and get your spec exact before you press the order button..
