"Payment Not Authorised" but money was talked from my bank account

I tried to order a laptop from PCSpecialist a few days ago and went through all the steps up to payment then i got an email after saying that the payment did not work. Problem is, the money was taken from my bank account so ....

I contacted PCS and they said that they had not received any payment and they said there was really nothing they could do, afterwards I contacted my bank and they said that the money had been removed from my account as a guaranteed debit so the only person who could reject it would be the vendor (PCS) and there was nothing they could.

The guys I talked to were cool about the entire thing my only problem would be that they could not really tell me anything other than "we did not get the payment and there is nothing we can do". Nothing at all about how or why it could have happened.

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I assume I will get the money back but when I do and I try to buy again, will it fail again?

The worst thing about this is that I really needed the laptop in a few days for an important day and now the time for the refund and then build and delivery will not allow that to happen (That is not even counting if there is a second payment rejection)

I do recall having heard one or two other people in the dim and distant past mention this kind of issue, as I recall they were eventually sorted. As you say, if PCS haven't received the payment then it will eventually find its way back to your account. You've done the sensible thing by contacting PCS, now I think you should talk to your bank and get them to find out where your money is. It is your bank who initiated the transfer on your behalf and it's thus their responsibility to find out where it went.

How did you 'setup payment'? Was it an online bank transfer or a credit card payment?

This is a real pain in the backside.

I recently changed care insurance. Funnily enough, it's the same company but they wanted to double my premium on renewal.

Spoke to them about it - all sorted - except they then tried to use the debit card stored to take the full amount as well as the new amount.

What was doubly annoying was how they managed this as the bank had replaced the card they had on record over a month previously and had supposedly cancelled the old one.

Anyway, I spoke to the insurance company and they did a reversal that very same day but it took 5 working days to appear back in my account. Until that point it was stuck as a pending transaction.

The bank couldn't do anything until the time to return it had expired.

That is the same with us, at this point, you unfortunately just have to wait, Mandla.

It's also worth noting that this isn't PCS - it's entirely down to how the payment processors work. I do appreciate the frustration it causes though, believe me.

No problem, I waited and got the money back. I ended up asking one of the guys on support to take the money over the phone. I was worried it would happen again, and losing another week would be a unsustainable I am already salty enough with the time I lost.

Now I just have to be patient and wait for the production-delivery process to complete, hopefully I will have it before the end of the coming week. it would be really bad if I did not.

Thanks for the comment though guys.
