New Gaming PC

Hi, I basically have no real idea about what PC parts are good but would still like to buy a decent PC.

I would like to use the PC mainly for gaming purposes, my current laptop is just not really powerful enough to play triple-a titles.

My max budget would be £1500 but need a little of that for a keyboard and monitor.

Thank you for the help.

RX 580 to go with a Freesync high refresh monitor, and the system should support a range of future upgrades.

Yes, thank you Oussebon. Even if I don't fully understand all this I am sure it will be great. So thank you again

No worries :)

Freesync is AMD's Variable Refresh Rate technology. A regular monitor (e.g. the old AOC i2352Vh I game on) has a 60hz refresh rate so displays 60 images per second. This is why you hear of "60 fps" being so highly regarded by gamers. If you don't run a game at 60fps, e.g. the game is very demanding and the framerate produced by your graphics card drops to say 50, you get a much less smooth gaming experience. Since the monitor has to show 60 images per second, you either end up with images being shown twice (which makes for stutter) or the monitor trying to show multiple frames at once (known as tearing) which looks like this:
0*B17jPOMzGD7qwDHG.jpg

Variable Refresh Rate (Freesync for AMD GPUs, Gsync for Nvidia ones) matches the monitor's refresh rate to the graphics card's framerate, to get rid of stutter and tearing.

So if you get a new AAA title and crank the settings up so that you're not hitting a consistent 60fps, it doesn't matter.

The monitor is also a high refresh rate monitor meaning it can display upto 144 images per second instead of just 60. Many people find this gives a much 'smoother' sense of motion. Not all games will run at very high fps, but some will, and freesync will help avoid tearing and stuttering with the rest.

The other bits in the system are fairly standard for the price range; mid/high end gaming CPU, high end motherboard with a solid feature set, 16gb RAM which should be all you need for the lifetime of the PC, and a decent quantity of storage including a fast SSD to get Windows and games you install on it loading as fast as possible. The RX 580 will play most modern games on high-ultra, depending on the title. It comes with 2 free AAA games. And the system (case, mobo, CPU, PSU) should support a range of future graphics cards upgrades when you feel it's time to upgrade your RX 580.

If that helps explain a little more what you'd be spending a grand and a half or so on(!).
