I have around £700 to maybe £1000 to replace my laptop with a new one
I do a lot of office work and watch videos on my laptop but don't play many games, but watch live sport
So I.m guessing and i5 with a good deal of RAM and fast graphic is the areas I should concentrate on although my present laptop (purchased through pcspecialist) I have been disappointed with the case as wear and tear have seemed to be excessive
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received
Thanks

For general gaming, the lowest you probably want to go is the GTX 1050 ti graphics card. In terms of what's cheaper than a 1050 ti, the GTX 1050 ends up being little cheaper but quite a bit less powerful, and lower end things like the Nvidia MX150 or even integrated graphics will be unable to play some titles even from a few years ago at anywhere close to native resolution (1080p).

The 1050 ti will not run all modern games on high settings, but it will run them, and should have the capacity to handle new titles a bit into the future as well.

The cheapest system offering that is the Vyper, which seems to review well:

You don't need an i7 for this level of gaming or for your office uses. An i5 with its 4 cores and 8 threads should be more than enough.

Though an i7 is "only" £40 more, could potentially help some games, and comes with some free games and software. (I think Call of Duty Black Ops 4, Killing Floor 2, if they like that sort of thing - and Evasion but that's a VR game)

8gb RAM is fine and there's a free slot so you can add more in the future if required.

~250gb SSD + 1TB HDD is a popular storage combination, the SSD for Windows, programs, project files, and favourite games, the HDD for everything else.

You could also consider this, though it's at the upper limit of the bidget:

Better screen, 16gb RAM, different storage, lighter laptop. But more expensive.
