Thoughts? Will the noctua cope with an overclocked 2700x?

I know very little about motherboards so that was a default choice. I video edit hence the fastest ram that ryzen will offer on the config. And I want a 2080ti because... Well why not eh?!

That is a very nice monitor. I wish I had the space for the 27". Any reason why you went for 'only' the 24"?

I would up the cooling to the 100x with silent fans, for the sake of the price difference it's worth it. If you do, drop the gel as the stock paste with the Corsair systems is excellent. Same with the PSU, I would always recommend at least a 650w for a good rig. Overclocked 2700x is pointless as the built in AI overclocking generally performs better than a manual overclock so I would drop to a standard build.

If you need the wireless I would go with one of the better cards. The Gigabyte offering seems like good bang for buck.

Consider a 512GB 970 Evo if you can. I know 256 may be all you need but if it's an option I would plan ahead and get a little more game-space :D

Sound. The overclock only makes it about £2 more expensive but will drop down if it actively makes it worse.

Wireless.... Actually... I suppose I might. But I just love a good flex.

Most of the benchmarks I have seen show better performance with the AI overclock over the manual. Seems pretty clever to be honest (Dropping cores while increasing frequency etc).

I'm a hard line guy myself but I do like a wireless backup available. The cards seem to be selected as default now so if you don't want it, drop it for a saving. If you do, just consider what sort of data rate you would be looking for.

Agreed with going for the stock clocked build - depending how PCS do it, it can actually worsen performance in some uses.

The TUF motherboard is decidedly "meh" in my opinion. It has cheaper onboard sound, no USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C, and is only £5 cheaper than the AORUS ultra gaming which does have USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C, better onboard sound, more USB ports, SLI support...

If the games voucher is very attractive, then the Asus X470-F has those features and still includes the voucher, though is £63 more than the Ultra Gaming (if there's a good reason for that other than "Asus Tax" I couldn't tell you what). You're still ~£30 up in free games credit though assuming the AMP mousemat with the Gigabyte mobo is not of interest...

I'd have stuck with the Noctua as the system ought to be quieter and there's only so much overclocking/boosting headroom on the Ryzen CPUs anyway as far as I know. But it's a choice.

If really going for a quieter system, the the RM850x would be the go-to PSU.

I would probably have wanted a larger SSD, as £90 of games will fill that up rather fast!

I've had a spanner in the works which has finally almost wiggled itself free. Basically my wife put a stopper on it as she reneged on a critical deal we'd made and she decided she didn't want a PC in the only room it could fit in.

HOWEVER... Unlike Theresa May I actually HAVE made some progress with my negotiations. But they rest on finding a computer desk that has a 'bureau' style to it which, when the PC is not in use, sort of folds up and looks like a nice regular bureau. Anyone got any ideas for where I might find one? A Google search is yielding not particularly promising results apart from a monstrosity from ikea.

Anyone got a desk like this or suggest where to look?

I've actually got a monstrosity from Ikea and it's not that bad once it's settled in, but I just use if for the office PC, it may struggle to fit a full size gaming setup, you'd definitely have to adjust all the heights of shelves etc....

Ooh interesting... Whats the name of that one?

It's the Hemnes bureau bottom half

Then you add on the top bit (which I can't find on the website). I imagine it's some form of Hemnes add on on the top. It was one of those bits that made much more sense when you're in the showroom as they show you all the options. They also do the same in a dark wood stain.

Give me a day and I’ll see if I can find the exact part numbers.

So the part number I have for the secondary part that fits on the top is:

Hemnes N add-on unit bureau 89x90 white stain 802.457.01

But I've had a search on their website and it's not being shown anywhere. I'm sure if you contact them they'd have some other alternative that would suit just as well.
