New Laptop Advice

Hi

I am after some advice / thoughts on a new laptop.

Currently have a Vortex from 2012 (i7-3610QM, 16Gb, 256Gb Samsung 830 SSD, GTX 670M), still going strong but would not mind something a little faster and lighter this thing is a brick (4kg) and that is without the powerpack.

Usage: Photoshop (RAW files), Lightroom, Programming, Some Games (Euro Truck Simulator / American Truck Simulator) etc.

Away from PCSpecialist I have been looking at the XPS9570 & the Lenovo X1 Extreme which both suffer from thermal issues, QC issues and are 15" laptops with 4k screens. Ok they come with 3 years onsite warranty as against the 2 year RTB with PCS.

Here at PCS I am considering the Defiance V which at 17" comes in at 3kg so 25% lighter, highlights of which are below:

Chassis & Display
Defiance Series: 17.3" Matte QHD 120Hz 72% NTSC LED Widescreen (2560x1440) + G-Sync

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 Six Core Processor 8750H (2.2GHz, 4.1GHz Turbo)

Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair 2133MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 16GB)

Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 - 6.0GB GDDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1

1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3400MB/R, 2500MB/W)

Thermal Paste
COOLER MASTER MASTERGEL MAKER THERMAL COMPOUND

I like the idea of the 2560x1440 display as I think that would be a good compromise on a 17" screen. I often feel that I can do with a little more real estate with 1920x1080 but 4k would be overkill given that some of the other photo-editing software I have does not scale well if at all.

All the screens are 100% sRGB (well 72% NTSC is close enough).

Price wise the PCS system is the cheapest, Dell in the middle and the Lenovo makes the eyes water. Am struggling to find many reviews of the Defiance V else where on the internet and there are not many here on the PCS forums which I have read. The theme seems to be thermals again but I do have a notebook cooler so hopefully that would help, the bottom of the laptop looks to be fairly open with vents so air will get in.

What are the devices like and how are PCS these days, its been 2012 since I dealt with them.

The Recoil II would be worth a look, as it's even lighter, offers the i7 and GTX 1060 like the Defiance, apparently cools very well, and will be a fair bit cheaper.
