I was just recently introduced to pcspecialist and I am currently looking for a powerful laptop that can withstand hours on end of real time graphics ( I plan to primarily use this laptop in a club setting but for VJiing softwares such as Resolume and Module 8 as well post production softwares Adobe Premiere and After Effects). I came across your laptops because I stumbled upon a post of someone who worked at EDC who ran resolume with one of your laptops for 10+ hours over the course of two days with no issues. They ran 2 times the 4k output , running 980m with no extra cooling, icepacks, and or ac units. Your laptops heat exhaust actually get rid of the hot air compared to a lot of other gaming laptops and laptops which doesn't allow the heat to leave or really focus on that part. Anyways I'm in the market for an upgrade I currently have a Macbook Pro (for the DAWS) and I need something practical for visuals and that does not break my bank lol.

Welcome to the forums :)

What sort of budget did you have in mind? Feel free to give a target budget and a max budget if you want a couple of options.

Welcome along, are you worried about how portable the laptop is? The Octane would be great for what you are wanting but is more a desk top replacement than a laptop, weighs about 4 kg and the power brick is brick size or bigger, that said it is an extremely powerful machine with a desk top CPU. It is currently out of stock but should be in by the end of the month. If the weight is not a problem and you are interested in the Octane someone will do a spec for you.

What DAWs are you using, if it is something cross platform like Ardour you may want to consider dual-booting with a Linux studio distro as they have low latency kernels.

Honestly not all. I'm more worried about having constant fps for a long duration and having the heat being able to escape properly. As well having a storage some of these visuals because these files individually are generally within the 500 MB- 4GIGS zone and they have to be layered on top of each other. So it's a lot of live rendering.

I also checked out The Octane and I really like how the vents are in the back and if its pretty much a desktop CPU then this would be ideal.

The DAWs I use are Ableton Live and Pro Tools.
