Looking for a new build!!

Hey so im considering buying a new PC, my old one is almost 5 years old and feeling dated and sluggish with a few things and is also pretty loud.
Im looking to buy one for gaming/streaming and pretty much everyday use.
I currently run a 3 screen set up, one in which is a TV as i watch all my TV shows online from the PC. I Deff need an upgrade to my monitors aswell to 144hz so i could use a few recommendations for that. I also run my games consoles through one of my monitors so when im streaming im still at the PC.

the build im looking at is this but feel theres room for changes to make it better.

Hi,

I don't think there's a lot to recommend. Gaming and streaming will use lots of cores so the hyper-threaded 8 core CPU makes sense over the 9700K.

The change I would make is to get a M.2 SATA module rather than a SSD 'drive' for your OS and games. The 250GB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SATA will perform significantly better. SSD drives still use the SATA bus, which was designed for mechanical storage and so was never optimized for SSD technology.

Thanks great suggestion totally overlooked the type of SSD i had chosen. Im also thinking since i will still have my old PC that could handle the streaming side and i could use the new PC for just the gaming/everyday use so i could possibly tweak a few things and save a little for a monitor

Switch the Pro HDD to a regular HDD, the price premium is obscene and you're not getting any meaningful benefit.

Get a better CPU cooler, at least the H100x for the 9900k as it's a monster. Have PCS removed the K500 from sale? I might have suggested a more upmarket case too, one with (even) more airflow at the front.

However, if you're using your other PC as a streaming PC, then a 9700k would be cheaper, give near identical performance, and be an all round better bet.

You could look at a Ryzen build and use the massive savings to aim for a 1440p 144hz monitor.

Agree about the HDD, not sure how much storage you need or if you already have other drives but worth noting that the 3TB standard HDD is much cheaper than the 2TB Pro plus if you do need a lot of space the 5TB standard is only 17 GBP more that the pro, although I would steer clear of the standard 4TB as that is only 5400rpm and if you are copying stuff to this quite often you will notice a difference, as a drive you will only use a little 5400s are fine, I have a 2TB in my laptop for my music collection but it did take an age to get everything copied to it.

If you were going to game on the PC but not stream, you could/should drop the CPU to the i7 9700k.

The suggested the Corsair 540 case as it's very good for cooling and the 9900k can be a very hot CPU, and it's one of the few cases that takes the H115 cooler.

If going with the 9700k, the H100x is more than fine, and the Corsair 570X would be a good alternative, that has RGB lighting.

For 1080p 144hz gaming, the RTX 2060 is fine.

Awesome thanks for the suggestions really appreciate you taking time to have a look. I would prob go for a 1440p 144hz monitor looking around just now for one if you have any suggestions?

The Dell S2716DG is a good starting point as it's 144hz 1440p and gsync. It's one of the least expensive ones (~£430 last I looked) and has gone down well on these forums. See how you like the look of that.

The RTX 2070 is ~15% faster than the RTX 2060, however it's £180 more and the RTX 2060 is still more than adequate at 1440p. So I'd probably recommend sticking to the 2060 even at 1440p and putting the cash towards a nice monitor with gsync.

do you get many 24" monitors at 144hz 1440p as my second monitor would be 24" and would like to keep them same size if possible, im just not seeing many

The Dell S2416DG :)

Although some people find that 24" is a bit too small to really appreciate the 1440p resolution as much as 27". 27" seems to be a bit more of a norm for 1440p, though I'm sure others find 24" fine.

awesome thanks i'll do a bit of comparing on them, look to see what i can sell my old monitor for first then decided on what monitor to go for

one more question about a monitor, as i play my consoles through my monitor is there a 4k 144hz monitor you could recommend? I wont mind playing the PC games at lower resolution just want the option of 4k for the consoles?

i thought that but thought i would ask the question, just when im looking im seeing alot of diff info with monitors claiming 4k 120hz - 144 hz for around 400 - 600 so thought that wasnt right

I'm not aware of those. There is a 4k 120hz monitor for ~£900 I saw on Amazon. It's freesync rather than gsync though. And I can't quite tell if it's one of the ones that is officially gsync compatible (though even if it is the VRR window seemed a bit meh).

Your best bet might be to just pick up a relatively cheap 4k 60hz monitor for ~£250-400, depending on what you want.

If your console has freesync, get a 4k 60hz freesync monitor and use that. Pretty sure there are ones for ~£250.
