Laptop battery icon showing X

I bought the Defiance II laptop in late August 2016. Battery was working perfectly fine until yesterday. My battery icon shows an X cross and if i remove the charger plug the laptop shuts off. Also, if I have to replace my battery where can i get one? Any help will be appreciated.

Have you tried anything like removing the battery and reinstalling it?

PCS have a spare parts section if you log into your PC Specialist account, so you can probably order additional battieries and so forth from there

Before going down the new battery route I would ensure that the battery contacts are not the issue. Give the contacts on the battery a clean and those inside the laptop. If you can, check that the laptop contacts are able to make good contact with the battery.

I would then put it on charge for 24 hours with the laptop shutdown and switched off. Don't use it at all whilst it's charging. Then power it up and remove the mains charger and see how long it runs on battery (if at all).
