Awaiting desktop computer (but mostly being nagging and impatient)

Hi guys,

The building of my custom desktop has been put on hold for almost a week now because of a missing component.

PC Specialist is awaiting the power supply (CORSAIR 1200W HX SERIES) I have selected in order to proceed with production. I'm a little puzzled because said power supply can be found in stock on pretty much any major supplier's website. It makes me wonder what the hold up is.

Have some of you been in a similar situation? If so, how much time did you have to wait until your order finally rolled out of the assembly line?

Thank you for replies!

V.

What's the rest of the spec? Just curious, as that's a serious PSU :)

As much as retailers may have it in stock, PCS will likely receive their orders from particular suppliers and in bulk. They won't simply order a one off to fulfil an order so they will most likely be waiting on a bulk supply order of parts.

Once your bits are all lined up it'll likely be 3-5 days. Normally a day for building, a day for testing and then despatched.

That would make sense! I just wish they had told me right away that they didn't have the power supply in stock, so I wouldn't get my panties in a bundle like a 12 y/o girl at a Justin Bieber concert.

I'd have gone with a (much) better cooler and the RMx PSU. Even if you SLI it'd be fine.

And probably different storage unless you have v. niche uses

As above, that H80i just isn't going to cut the mustard at all. The 9900k gets very toasty when at full chat. It's a good chip and it can handle the heat but the H80 will be like throwing a deckchair off the titanic.

You need at least a 100X in there, the 100X is designed by CoolIt and it runs as well as much larger previous gen corsair coolers. I personally opted for the H115 RGB Platinum (Not to be confused with the Pro) which is one of the best cooling solutions for the 9900k.

Give them a ring and see what high end PSUs they have in stock. The 850 would be my choice. If you're thinking SLI is a possibility then maybe push for the 1000, I think you would have went for the 2080Ti rather than potential SLi though.

Just to add to the above, the main point of my post was to suggest that if PCS are having supply issues with the HX, the RM seems way more than fine for the build - so you could save some cash and get the thing sent to you sooner. It wasn't to slam the build in any way. :)

And while suggesting the above, I took the opportunity to make a couple of extra comments.

Agreed about the 2080 ti being a sound thing to consider over SLI too (if that was indeed the plan).

That's good to know. PCSepcialist offers the opportunity to amend orders as long as they've not been completed yet. As mine's been put on hold anyway, now would be the right time to make any necessary changes. I'll have a look at the CPU cooling systems they have in stock.
Thanks for your feebacks guys!

Don't apologize! Your comment saved me a lot of trouble. It wasn't until getting some feedback about my specs on this forum that I realized I needed a better CPU cooling system. I checked on a few forums and you guys were right, the Corsair H80i V2 wasn't gonna cut it. I amended my order and opted for the Corsair H115i PRO instead, which should do the trick just fine.

Thanks again to you all
