So it's time for an upgrade, and i'd like to re-use some parts from my original build which was also built by PCSpecialists. I want to know which parts I can send in that you're happy to reuse
Parts I want to keep:
1) Coolmaster HAF 932 Case & fans
2) Corsair 850w PSU
3) 250GB SSD (wiped, need OS installing on it)
4) 2TB Seagate hard-drive (wiped, additional storage)
5) Wireless card

Parts I'm buying:
1) I9-9820X 10 Core
2) ASUS ROG STRIX X299-E
3) RTX 2080 8GB
4) Fresh install of windows 10 home

The only problem is the configuration doesn't let me remove the PSU, and it also doesn't specify if you're happy for me to send in my own drives to install windows fresh. is this something that can be worked out? Any advice welcome

PCS will only upgrade things like hard drives and cpu”s and memory.

If you want to replace the motherboard or psu, that’s classed as a full system build and they don’t offer that service as an upgrade. It would cause no end of problems with warranties etc.

So if you want to do it through PCS, you’ll need to do a full build and just choose the basics for the things you want to keep.

I am intending a full re-build, just wondering if they would re-use my existing PSU, & hard drives rather than having to purchase a new one, as there's no point in buying new.

You can put in your existing HDD's once it's built but you'll have to select a default standard HDD in the new build but not your PSU as that would require a full rebuild and particularly difficult warranty.

If you're unsure, give them a call, I'm sure they'd be open to discussing. They're open tomorrow or tonight until 8pm.

It's likely you'd need a new windows license also, unless you follow online directions to link your existing to your microsoft account (only available in windows 10)

Thanks for the info, i also spoke to someone at PCS and it turns out im better off just going for a complete rebuild. I went for the older chipset since it's cheaper and turns out the benchmarks for the i9 i chose are actually better if not negligibly worse for gaming.

I settled on this build in the end:

1st Storage Drive

I suspected it was for gaming and was going to make a similar recommendation :)

What's the budget? What's the total price of that system? And what monitor are you pairing it with?

My budget was £2500 but went a little over and the total came to £2669... + £29 to upgrade to 5 day build time - it's current'y being built so should have it next week if all goes well!

I'll mainly be playing on my Samsung U28D590 28" 4K 60Hz LED Monitor
Or using my nvidia shield (which isn't great i'll be honest) to stream to my Samsung JU6400 Series 6 48 inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model) in the front room

I'd be strongly tempted to amend it and get a kuch better cooler (H115, or H100x at the very least - the 9900k is a furnace). You could drop the Pro HDD to a regular one, saving £60 for no performance loss for your uses. And I'd have gone with the Z390-E which is £50 cheaper, has many of the same key features, and some extra ones like wifi and bluetooth. The Hero is more geared to overclocking but you were never going to OC a 9900k on an H60 much at all anyway.

You should try getting gsync to work on your Samsing monitor, will be interested to hear how that goes.

Ahh! thanks for the tip. I dropped the PRO hdd, upgraded to the h115 and saved myself £4 overall

I'll keep the Motherboard as i have a wifi card from my old build that I wanted to use anyway, has a decent set of antennae which is needed as my setup is near a wall and in a different room to the router!

Hopefully the last minute change doesn't delay to build too much!
