Optimus Series: 15.6" will not even POST

Hi,

I have an Optimus laptop which is a few years old.

Had an issue in the past with display that was RMAed and solved by PCSpecialist. For some reason now it's not booting but not even doing a POST.

Did the usual, disconnect power, take out battery, plug back in. Went to just take out the RAM but can't actually see any in the DIMM slots as the system RAM must be on the motherboard elsewhere.

When powering up you can hear the hardrives spin up but the screen doesn't flicker and only the power light is on and 2 lights alternating a sequence of (touchpad light goes green for a half second then the hard drive light flickers white for a split second.)

It won't do anything after that. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should try?

Thanks,
Ronan.

This is a long shot but it might be worth replacing the CMOS battery. That is underneath the keyboard if memory serves when I last had the keyboard off on my Optimus IV. BTW. That's where you'll find the RAM too I suspect.

Hi

Did you get to the bottom of this? I have a similar laptop and same symptoms. Nothing on internal or external display. Caps lock indicator does not light. Tried re-seating RAM, replacing CMOS battery. Nothing. If I leave it on, the CPU fan whirs up and the unit does get warm like it would in conventional use.

Are you sure yours in not booting? It might just be a display failure for example. Try shining a torch on the screen and see whether you can see a feint display.
