Help on a new build from PC Specialist

Hello,

I was wondering what people think of the below build. Please note I game on 4K TV (Samsung KS8000).

Space is limited for me, I game in my living room where my current PC sits in a cabinet, which opens up.

CPU - i7-8700k, i9-9700k or i9-9900k? Overlocking is not something I will be doing anytime soon but will keep the "k" as there is little in price difference
RAM - Kingston Fury Black 16GB DDR4 2666MHz
GPU - Asus Rog Strix 2080ti
Motherboard - Asus Strix B360-I Gaming Mini-ITX
Power Supply - Corsair 750W TXm Series Semi Modular 80 Plus Gold Ultra Quiet
SSD - Samsung 500Gb 860 EVO / Already have Samsung 250Gb 860 EVO which I will add from old build
HDD - Already have WD 1Tb Black which I will add from old build
Cooling - Noctua NH-C14S Ultra Quiet Performance or Corsair H60 2018 Hydro Series?
Case - Corsair Crystal Series 280X RGB Gaming Case

From my old build I will be selling my i5-6600k, Asus Strix 1080ti, Cooler, RAM and Power Supply. I know my old build is good but I struggle on the newer games which are more CPU intensive and I can get more money for my GPU and other parts now than a year or so later.

Thanks!!

What's your budget and what is the full price of that system?

And what games specifically are struggling?

The WD Black 1TB you're adding - is that an HDD or SSD? (WD use the Black branding for both...)

Thanks for your reply. The cost of that build is just about £2,650. The WD Black is a HDD. My max budget is £2,700.

I struggle on new games like Assassins Creed, Anthem, RE2, Metro Exodus. And I know future games like Anno 1800, The Division 2, etc. will be the same. Essentially games are becoming more CPU heavy, even if you play at 4K. I need more cores and threads.

You can't OC on a B300 motherboard, only Z300 ones.

At 4k CPU performance isn't a massive issue even in those titles. Even AC:OD which is an outlier and a brutal monster is sufficiently GPU bound at 4k that swapping CPU might not do much for you. Similar story with Anthem. And nearly everything:

Even taking into account they reviewed Anthem at 4k on a 1080, it doesn't seem the CPU is much of an issue - if it were we might expect to see a bit more of a difference with minimum frame times.

I don't disagree with you about some titles being more CPU heavy.

But I do think there's a very strong case for your buying a new GPU for your existing system and seeing how that goes before you buy a new whole new PC. if you find your 2080 ti is meaningfully limited by your 6600k, then you can always buy a PCS system without a GPU and swap your new 2080 ti in :)

Also the pricing on that Asus is crazy. The Zotac AMP!'s cooler is apparently on par, but that card costs like £150 less. It's just the Asus tax and not remotely worth it.
