Recoil II RTX - WiFi Internet Connectivity Dropping When Downloading

Hi All,

I took delivery of a Recoil II RTX today.

However, when I am running on WiFi to my router, and downloading, after awhile the laptop will lose connectivity. It is showing as connected to the router, but no internet connectivity. Download ceases and web-pages are not accessible

On WiFi it is showing as 4/5 bars and while downloading I am currently getting up-to a maximum of 11mbps.

Once the connectivity is dropped (note that connectivity does not drop on the computer or phone which are also connected to the router) disconnecting and reconnecting to the router does not fix the issue (shows connected, no internet). The only way to fix the issue is to run windows diagnostic which resets the wi-fi adapter. It will then work until it drops again after a few minutes. It dropped three times during the writing of this post approx 10 minutes from the previous reset... It is the same issue every time.

Can anyone help?

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. Once all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device on or plug it back in to the power outlet. To restart a router or modem that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

have you run all updates? I'd check for an updated wifi driver, windows can be a bit slow with new releases, there may be a newer one available than windows has found.

I hate Intel WiFi cards with a passion for a number of reasons: First off, they won't allow MAC address changes, which means things like Windows 10's automatic MAC spoofing won't work when you connect to a public (i.e. open) hotspot.

But more than that, their drivers over the last few years have sucked. I mean they've been terrible.

I had exactly the same type of issues you're facing for a long time with my Defiance II - I can't remember exactly, off the top of my head, which Intel card is in it - it's an AC though.

It took me many attempts at different versions of driver before I finally found one that was suitably stable.

That said, when I recently wiped the thing and put 1809 on, it used the most recent MS driver and has been rock solid with it, so it may be worthwhile removing all Intel drivers and trying the native MS one. I'd assume your brand new laptop has the latest version of Windows 10 on it.

Edit: Had to check and it's the AC-7265 in mine.

Hi All,

Thanks for the above. After several days of it working the dreaded droping out has started again :(.

Tony - can you go in a little more detail for a noob, where are the MS native drivers ? OR do you mean uninstall the driver in device manager and have windows autoinstall one?

Hi Chris

Sorry - yes, I mean exactly that: uninstall any Intel ProSet type software from control panel, then under device manager, if it's still trying to use Intel branded drivers, uninstall them and allow Windows to find its own and automatically install it.

Or...Use Device Manager to delete the WiFi device, if asked also delete the driver. Reboot. Then install the latest Intel driver but select only to install the driver, don't install any of their other rubbish (like the Pro/Set stuff Tony1044 mentioned).

Honestly, I have a much more stable WiFi system running just the Microsoft driver on my rebuild (1809 based) than I ever did with any Intel provided driver.
