It's obviously powerful enough for what you want to do with it, but perhaps unsuitable for travelling with due to its weight, it's a desktop replacement really. There's a review on YouTube that emphasises just how unportable it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nX0lTzn1fqo

If I were you I'd buy something like the Vortex, which still has the RTX 2070 and G-Sync, but is about half the weight and much smaller.

We love you Ukraine
The Octane isn’t a laptop, it’s a desktop replacement. It trades battery life and portability for sheer power which isn’t going to particularly benefit you for gaming.

If you want something more portable I’d suggest the Vortex

Basically exactly what what @markh says :)

Agreed with the others that the Vortex is worth seriously considering.

If portability isn't an issue, there's an argument for dropping the CPU to an i5 8400 and getting an RTX 2080 graphics card. Since you can't guarantee being able to upgrade to future GPUs or CPUs anyway (may not be possible at all, and if it is possible it may not be the most cost effective path anyway). then for most games, maximising the GPU horsepower would seem to make sense.

I've travelled a lot. If you want to see the world, don't bring a gaming laptop, otherwise you might as well just stay at home. Just my opinion anyway. Although when I lived in Bangkok for a year working as a chef, it was nice to have a powerful laptop to play games on quiet nights. But it sounds like you're going on a leisure trip to me. Even carrying my 15" Defiance over short distances is quite cumbersome. Not to mention worrying if it might get lost of stolen.

You can't game on the go with a gaming laptop. Well, you can.... but the grunt of the laptop isn't the issue.... the battery power is. You are very limited with how much power you can get from the CPU/GPU while not plugged into the mains.

If you plan to play games via the battery then there's no point in going for the Octane.

I'd read it as the OP going on various business type trips, and being on the go in that sense. Though it's a fair point to consider; how much use the spec will get versus how much cash is being spent on it.

I'm not sure there;'s much point buying any laptop for gaming on battery? Other than 2D games I guess :)

Portability isn't an issue for me.

For clarity: when I wrote I plan to use the laptop on the go, I don't mean while I am in a transport vehicle. I plan to set it up in the hotel room that I stay in or in the house I rent.

I am not scared of losing it or have it be stolen. Need to take risk in life from time to time. Also, why buy a desktop replacement laptop if you are just going to keep it at home?

The Octane is fine for that sort of use. Your usage was a little vague, could be climbing mountains for all we knew :D
