Thanks for the replies guys. Iv got a few questions if you/anyone could help. A friend has suggested this build, he said that it would be just as good and would give me more time before I would need and upgrade, because of the newer am3+ and the bulldozer combo. He also said the 6870 out performs the 560. How much truth is in this? Cheers

Yeah, the 6870 beats the 560 but the 560ti beats the 6870. Your spec looks good, I would strongly recommend upgrading the hdd to a seagate barracuda, also I would go for the phenom over the bulldozer.

I would get the Phenom X4 not the Bulldozer, and I would get a 500gb Seagate Barracuda, with a 6870 GPU, and that would get the price to £612.

Thanks again, the 6870 and barracuda look good to me.

I would get the Phenom X4 not the Bulldozer, and I would get a 500gb Seagate Barracuda, with a 6870 GPU, and that would get the price to £612.

Is that with the am3? Because I'm getting £630 with the am3+ which is pushing my budget =P Is there much of a difference between the 2? Or is it a case of the am3+ being the base for future/newer CPU's ?

EDIT: Just played around with the configurator again and it turns out that you do not need the 600W to get the 6870. Configurator was playing tricks on me! :p :-/ I'll add some more accurate info in another post.

Nope you don't need the am3+ you will be fine with the standard mobo.

However I've just realised that I selected the 450W when the 600W power supply would be much safer. :/ that's another £30 then. If you get the 6850 card, which is nearly as good as the 6870 (there really isn't a huge difference) you only need a 450W power supply. So, when you drop down to that card and drop to that power supply, the price becomes £583, so you could get the AM3+ if you wanted, bringing the price up to £613. As I said before, you don't actually need the AM3 so you could save yourself some money with not getting that. Essentially, you are brought down to these options if you want that spec and either the 6850 or 6870:

1) Get the 6870 (with the 600W power supply) with the standard motherboard. Price: £642
2) Get the 6850 (with the 450W power supply) with the AM3+. Price: £613
3) Get the 6850 (with the 450W power supply) with the standard mobo. Price: £583

As you can see, due to the power supply, there is a £59 price difference between the 6850 and the 6870. The difference in performance is not very big between the two cards, therefore unless you are very happy to spend that £59 on a slightly better GPU, I would say the price is not justified, so you should get the 6850 in my opinion. Getting the 6850 also allows you to get the AM3 should you so desire. Alternatively, you could take that third option but upgrade the RAM, Hard Drive, Processor or something, but personally I would say either get the 2nd or 3rd option there. :)

To avoid any confusion, here is the spec that I have been talking about:

So forget what I was saying about the 600W for the 6870, the configurator was playing tricks on me.

As I said, you do not need the AM3 so you can get the price to £612 with the HD6870. You will be fine for the future aswell with the standard mobo in that configurator, for many years :)

However, I have found how the website was "playing tricks on me". With the 6870 card and the standard mobo, you will need 600W; however if you go for the 6870 & AM3, you only need a 450W. This means that going with the AM3 is actually cheaper, by £10, than without it! (due to the power supply)

But, the cheapest you can get if you want a 6870 and the rest of that build, is £632. Therefore you should get the 6850 in my opinion, since the performance difference is very little between those two graphics cards.

I hope this made some sense! (you may want to read my previous post aswell if you haven't done so)

What everyone else has said so far.
But what also stands out to me is the case.
I'd definitely consider buying a more capable case to high performance equipment like that else it may get a little to cosy in there.

Though on second thoughts the coolermaster shouldn't be too bad. But I definitely prioritize a good case ;)

Thanks for all the info, and taking the time to help. I did check the amd Site and minimum is 500w for the 6870, so that could be a clue as to why it changes. I think iv definitely got enough info to make a decision. Again thankyou for all your help =)
