2 x AMD Radeon HD6970

Hi, I am hoping to buy my new PC sometime in January (fingers Crossed!). I think I will be getting 2 AMD Radeon HD6970's in crossfire. I am looking to run 3 22" monitors off of the PC. So would I be able to have 2 of the screens running off of the HDMI ports, or would I have to have them running off the DVI ports? Or does it not really matter?

Thanks in advance! :D

Im pretty sure it can be anything really port wise I'd recommend getting an optical cable to a set of decent speakers or a surround sound headset, a 7.1 headset plus 3 monitors = epic

Awesome, thanks for clearing that up for me! :) An optical cable to some proper good 7.1 speakers sounds like a brilliant idea! Maybe put that on my christmas list? :D

oh, one last question. For the 3 monitors I was thinking of getting 3 of the iiyama 22" screens. Do you think this would be alright? Or can I get better for the money? I think this is the best option, but im not completely sure.

Iiyama's are great monitors would definitely recommend it, I will also be purchasing one at a later date :) at a £20 extra for each, why dont you get 24" ones? whats your spec as well, may be able to save some money

Erm well, its going to be for quite few things: Web Design/ Development, Photo editing, and some HD video editing, ultra/high gaming, 3 screens and maybe games development at college :p I wanted to try and make it as future proof as possible and im looking to keep this PC for maybe 6 years or so? :) So it saves me having to buy a new pc in the near future too.

£2,811.00 - you could swap the 2tb caviar black for the 600gb velociraptor, which would be smaller, but much faster and would you ever need more than 600gb for games?

hmm.. looks good! I was planning on using the SSD for the OS and my most used applications and maybe one or two games. Then teh Black was for all the other games and applications and folders, whilst the Green drives going to be for iTunes, so that it doesnt clog up all my other Hdds, I might switch the 2TB Black for a 1TB? or that 600gb velociraptor as you said, which option is cheaper? :O

Also would the 580's be able to do 3 screens at ultra in sli? I think they will but just to double check! And the case i chose the CORSAIR CARBIDE SERIES™ 500R WHITE MID TOWER CASE - do you think i could have this one instead, as i really like the look of this one?

the 1TB and 2TB caviar blacks are the same price atm as far as i know, so go with the 2TB, the velociraptor is slightly more expensive than the 2TB but the speeds will definitely be good, 120gb SSD will also be fine, OS is about 20GB and everyday programs arent very big ie firefox chrome etc, but development apps will be bigger, these can go on the velociraptor though if you cant get them on the SSD

you can have that case, but the awesome H100 CPU cooler wont fit inside it...

and 580s perform better than 6970s as the 6970s compete with 570s, although multiscreen is slightly different, i imagine the 580s are better although not by much because AMD are optimized for multi screens but the 3GB VRAM should help you pull through anything, bear in mind that a couple of games may not play at maximum ultra awesomeness but will only require a small bit of tweaking

Oh ok, so I think I will stick with the 2TB black, just to keep the space at the lower price, i thinks. Yeah soinds like a good idea! :)

you could always add new HDDs at a later date anyway, in a few months, prices should drop a lot when they have sorted out the factories
