27" QHD Monitor 144Hz (HP 27xp, HPX27i, ACER VG27OU or MSI Optix G273QF)

Hi all,

I'm finally looking to get a monior for the PC I bought earlier in the year (see this thread for details - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/gaming-pc-1440p-vs-graphics-card-availability.80907/), but tl:dr the graphics card is the 6700xt, and it's not high-end fps gaming.

I'm looking for a 27", 1440p 144Hz set-up and have a budget of £300. I'm looking at Currys as there's a branch round the corner from work, so it's always been easy if there's been any issues with stuff I've bought from them. That said, I'm receptive to other suggestions if there's a good enough deal elsewhere.

Doing a search on their website (not back in the office yet, so haven't been in the store), the G5 is at the top end of that budget, and I know of it's general reputation on here, but before I stump up for that, for a number of reasons (but mainly it'll also be used for remote working with a laptop), I'm interested in opinions on the others they have.

Specifically the HP Quads (27xp and X27i), the ACER VG27OU and the MSI Optix G273QF.

Anyone got one of those, or had one, etc.?

Thanks,

Does your employer do any benefit schemes like Perkpal or anything - you can get vouchers for Currys/PCWorld from Perkpal and similar benefit schemes with a 5% to 8% cashback arrangement.

Alternatively the G5 is cheaper on amazon at the moment, do Currys do a pricematch with Amazon:

They don't unfortunately.

Thanks for the Amazon heads-up. Currys claim they price match everywhere, so I might give that a try. That said I would like to get a flat screen comparison as I don't know how well the curved screen will work as a work monitor (might be fine).

EDIT: hmmm, can't see the comparison link on the page. They say that happens when it's unique to Currys. The Currys one is a
LC27G55TQWUXEN whereas the Amazon one is LC27G55TQWRXXU. Don't know if they're being sneaky with that, or if there is a genuine difference?

EDIT2: It looks like there's no difference as the Samsung website only has the QWUXEN model, and Currys Business sells the QWRXXU but says it's a QWUXEN in the box. Both codes are available on different websites, but there's no obvious difference listed. I wonder if it's a boxing code. Difference between Currys & Amazon is only £10 but that's the cost of the display port cable, so I might see if I can get it matched.

Still not rules out those HP ones, though.

Cant help you with the others - when I looked into getting one (still havent yet), I set myself on Samsung monitor because of the good reports on here - LOL.

However my £500 that I had saved up went on a LGNano 4k TV :D

The LG 27GN850 is also available for £299. It is a high quality IPS panel, definitely worth considering at this price point.

Insanely cheap and will insanely be on its way to my house just after payday, if I can think of a way of the wife not realising the Dell in the lounge has suddenly grown slightly and changed colour stand... :D

The GL850 is at Currys for the same price. I assume this is a newer version of the model? If there's enough improvement, that'll probably swing it.

Thanks.

The GN850 is the newer variant, the newest model which is the GP850 has come out recently which is likely what has caused the slightly older, but still highly competent GL and GN to drop a little in price.
I think rally it comes down to preference. Most people report that when ordering direct from Amazon support is pretty solid, however having a Currys on your doorstep is certainly very convenient. I think that's what's going to swing it for you, if pricing is the same.

I think the GL is 2019 and GN is 2020 model variants.
Thanks. I've just found there's a few sites/threads out there discussing the differences, and as far as I can see, the main difference is the GL has a usb hub, and the GN has slightly improved colour & contrast?

Yeah, it's that horrible time when you can afford the older ones, but people are saying the newest one (GP) actually is a noriceable improvement and the little kid you wants the best one *now*. Can't stretch to that, unfortunately.

I think it may go for the GL, though. This has beeen useful though as the opinions on the GN have helped swing it to the LG pair.

The GN is £300 which you said was in budget?

Both the GN & GL are, but there doesn't seem much to split the two, performance wise.
It was the GP I that's not in budget. I've read some reports that that's a bigger step up then GL->GN.

Unless I'm missing something?

GP is just this years model not currently on sale I think. Go to LG website for specs.

Ah, sorry, I misread your post. Yeah, the GP hasn’t been released yet I don’t think but does look extremely good.

It's on Amazon (via Sotel) for £550 - though I'm not sure how official it is for the UK as the reviews are both in German.

This is an example of someone saying the GP is noticeably better than the GN, compared to the GN not being much better than the GL:

But not the only one I've seen.

TBH I think I'm going to go for the GL from Currys. I think there's a general consensus that the LGs are decent monitors, and that's helped a great deal. It's all pretty subjective, but it's always worth checking you're not going for something at the genuinely poorer end of the range.
