32GB SODIMM upgraded, but only 16GB POSTing

Hi

I've got a recent Fusion IV ( i7-10510U) originally with a 16GB SODIMM, however, since I'm recently doing a lot of VM / Docker work, I've needed to upgrade the RAM.

(The PC Specialist online upgrade advisor confirmed that a 32GB SODIMM this was a supported configuration - the Fusion IV only has 1 RAM Slot)
So I ordered a 32GB Corsair 2666MHz SODIMM DDR4 yesterday, which duly arrived today.

However, after shutting down and replacing the new RAM, only 16GB posts in both the BIOS and in Windows.
I've down the full Windows shutdown, and also tried briefly unplugging the battery, but no avail.

Any ideas?

Regards

Stuart

All bought through PC Specialist - I trust them :)

Here's the wmic output, wth the 32GB chip inserted.
The PartNumber is exactly the same as the label on the existing / old 16GB Module (WMIC says CM4X16GE2666C18S4 whereas label says CM4X32GE2666C18S2)

So I'm guessing it then has to be:
- BIOS still caching the old chip despite replaced
- Someone's put the wrong sticker on the Chip
?

I'm sure that's legit then. You might want to try resetting the CMOS on the motherboard, but you'd need to contact PCS on how to do that, often there a key configuration on the keyboard on boot these days rather than having to take out the battery on the mobo.

You could also try resetting BIOS settings to default and see if that sorts it.

Ok - problem solved!

I had disconnected the (main) battery pack, but hadn't disconnected the CMOS battery.
After hard shutdown and disconnecting the CMOS battery for 5 mins, the notebook now posts the full 32GB and wmic now correctly returns the expected value:

PartNumber=CM4X32GE2666C18S2

There was an awkward 90 seconds during the reboot where nothing happened - for a moment I had thought I had bricked it :)

Perfect! Well done!
