I understand, thanks for the advice I’ve learnt a fair wack this afternoon. Really grateful. One last question, if you don’t mind. If I was to add a ssd and the Rtx card you mentioned @SpyderTracks . What would you suggest if the budget could be modestly increased hypothetically? Thanks again

For £6 more you could get the PCS 1TB M.2 drive instead of the SATA SSD.

Morning all - thank you for the advice . I was quite naive really in my initial choice, so thank you for the suggestions. Having done some reasearch I hadn’t taken into account the intel vs amd or the benefits of cases, cooling and etc . cheers

That's why it pays to come on nhere and ask for advise before ordering, as the collective knowledge on here is awesome

The Asus is that exact model.

The nvidia selection means it could be any card they have available, usually Palit or Zotac, but often Gigabyte or Gainward too, but you get what they've got at the time.

But they're all 3070's, just different aftermarket designs.

Hi John, Have just bought PC with similar specs. I went for much larger second drive for use with large Lightroom store. Haven't used for video production yet but performance on Lightroom is excellent.

I would add to other comments that you would do well to invest in a larger, high quality 4k monitor. I have the 27" BenQ PD2700. Desk space is virtually the same as my earlier 24" screens and quality is excellent - particularly colour saturation. At £450 it is more expensive than the Samsung but not in the 'gamer' price range. Good luck.

Hello Marmot Whistler. Ah cool great to hear you've got a similar system. And thankyou for the monitor advice.

Will the 12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 - HDMI, DP support a 4k monitor ?

I am stuck between the 12gb RTx 3060 and the more expensive 8 gb rtx 3070. The 3070 blows my budget but I am right in saying the 3060 will only output 1080p? I saw a thread the other day in which someone said the rtx 3060 (non Ti) is only for 1080p. I'll only be editing 4k footage so would I need the 3070?

edit - just to add to this post after some reading , am I getting mixed up with using the cards for gaming? Lots of reading about gaming at these resolutions?

Cheers

The 3060 is only good for gaming at 1080p (or, at a push, 1440p if you don't mind low settings).

Most graphics cards can output to a 4K display. The 3060 will do this quite happily if you're not gaming and probably will be just fine for video editing. A higher-spec card may give advantages in terms of rendering speed and, depending on what you're doing precisely, playback smoothness, but the 3060 will be a perfectly fine card for video editing if it's the best you can afford.

But for goodness' sake don't try 4K gaming on it.

A bigger concern in terms of the build suggested above is RAM: a 4K video editing machine really needs 32GB of RAM. But this is an easy upgrade later if you don't have the budget for it now. And I would make sure that all of the SSDs in you system are M.2 ones, rather than old, slow, SATA ones. Perhaps you could post your current build?
