_Sub £2.3k Build Check - Fancy a switch to AMD?_

Hi all,

I have always used Inter in the past but I am reading a lot of positive feedback on this forum regarding AMD processors for realtime/offline rendering.

This build will be used mainly for work but I would like to use it for gaming on the side from time to time.

I would like to hear peoples thoughts on maybe switching to an AMD cpu and its potential benefits.

Budget - £2.3k (Some slight slippage here, its going on finance. You get the idea)

Current monitor - iiyama prolite x2888hs (Trash I know, but not too worried right now)

Target Software - 3ds Max/Autocad/UE4-5// Corona renderer/Octane renderer
I will also be using it for VR (oculus quest 2)

Side note, my current PC case is an ancient Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred V3 Full Tower Case. Ive kinda grown fond of it dont know why.
Do you think this case would be a suitable alternative??

I’d steer clear of the i11 range, definitely not Intel’s finest moment…

I’m at work so can’t offer lengthy advice at the moment, will jump back later on unless someone reputable gets in there first.

Thanks for the heads up. Those benchmarks are rather alarming to say the least!!

Thank you for your reply.

I noted that you have suggested the RAM be 3200Mhz. I think this is a great suggestion.

Instead of using a i7, what do you think of sticking with the i9 and using my existing case which I think it superior in airflow than my current posted spec?
no,the i9 runs very hot,and the case you choose has a solid front panel, which will let it have poor airflow

Any thoughts on this AMD CPU build??

Thinking of using my existing case (Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred V3 Full Tower Case) depending if the mobo will fit.
And I might be able to butter up my work to provide me with windows 10 (y)

slightly over the £2.3k budget but its a start.

I have no idea about your case, but the build is not very balanced. The motherboard really needs to be the Crosshair Hero for the 5950X. I would want at least the RMX850 and preferably the RMX1000 for the PSU with that combination. Also, I wouldn’t want that cooler. I would want a Corsair 115i or 150i. The Corsair m.2 drives don’t have the best write endurance. To get a balanced build for the 5950x and 3080 is going to break your budget.

My current case is a Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred V3 Full Tower Case ( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ante...3.0-ultimate-gaming-case-black-ca-165-an.html )

Is this revised build something close to what you are suggesting? I need to research m.2 drives further so I have not amended that out of the build.

Yes this is way over budget, but I would like to know a rough cost of building a 5950x and 3080 together.

Thanks again

Round about where you at maybe a bit higher, if it fits i'd up the cooler to the 150, fit a 500GB firecuda 530 in as the OS drive, then a separate 1TB intel 670p as the games drive, up the PSU to the 1000W RMx and up the warranty to silver

Thanks for the advice. The cooler upgrade to the 150 may be an issue as it's a 3fan and not too sure if my case will accommodate that. I would be happy to reduce my OS drive to 500gb. All other storage, I have covered from existing PCs I own.

Just out of curiosity, what's the reasoning for the 1000w PSU. Is it not overkill? I do need to look further into this builds power draw but I was just wondering is all.

Cheers

This isn't about what you need now, it's to give you headroom for future upgrades and with the difference in price it's well worth doing (spend an extra £30 now rather than a £100+ in a few years time and realise you haven't got enough power for the new GPU you so badly want)

Mainly using PC for work tasks such as 3D rendering (3ds Max/Unreal Engine/AutoCad/Photoshop) Little bit of gaming on the side, not a major concern tbh.
Always used Intel CPUs so the jump to AMD is a bit scary and want to make sure im atleast close with the spec.

My work will provide Windows OS and additional SSD/HDD storage with any monitors further down the line.

My current case is a Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred V3 Full Tower Case ( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ante...3.0-ultimate-gaming-case-black-ca-165-an.html )

Thanks for the reply.

I think I messed up a bit, I wanted to start a seperate thread with my revised build but I must have posted it to my original thread. Not to worry.

I like the storage rejig. Trying to decide which brand/speed/size storage has deemed more difficult than I had anticipated.

This build will be completed through my employer who will provide the OS, I am assuming it will be from an older office PC?? Hopefully not windows 11, dont think im ready for that just yet lol

I am slighlty concerned about the CPU cooling on this build. Ive specced a 'Corsair H150i RGB PRO XT CPU Cooler' which has 3x120mm fans inline and im know thinking my current PC case will not be compatible.

This is a screenshot of my existing case.

Can anyone suggest a suitable case for this build?

Ideally, the radiator would be mounted on the top. I don't know if that is possible on your case. If you are sending in a case, it is your responsibility to make sure everything will fit.

I believe the Corsair 5000X will take a Corsair H150i in the roof.

Steveyg

MOST VALUED CONTRIBUTOR
The H150i has a 360mm Radiator you would have to check the specs of your exact model of case to make sure it can support a 360mm Radiator

Thanks guys!

Unfortunely my existing case cannot mount a 360mm Radiator on the top panel as it has a Big Boy 200mm fan installed.

brief cooling system description of my case:

- 2 rear 120 mm blue LED exhaust fan
- 1 top 200 mm Big Boy 200&tradel blue LED exhaust fan
- 3 front 120 mm blue LED intake fans with front speed control
- 1 window side panel 120 mm fan slot
- 1 middle 120 mm fan bracket
- 200 mm Radiator mount

Bummer.

Might be worth looking at a new case then mate, I'd recommend the 5000X personally it's a very good case and has tonnes of space. The H150i was specifically made to fix the 5000X too
