thanks for the advice phoenix but will work with my current 17 inch flat monitor? will affect the resolutions and will I have buy new monitor to keep up with it? also just curious what would be Intel chip set and Nvidia graphic card equivalent? why do some people go for AMD or Intel type machine is there big difference in performance and speed?

Yes it will work fine, buying a new monitor would certainly improve the quality but it's not essential. The intel equivalent should be out tomorrow and will perform better but there wouldn't be anything to gain at 1280x1024, and the HD6950 is placed between the GTX470 and GTX570 in the drop-down list; better than the 470 but worse than the 570. Many people go with Intel because they have lots of advertising and most people know who they are, other people go with AMD because they offer CPU's that can accomplish the same tasks for a cheaper price.

I personally went with AMD because Intel are evil and are always trying to kill off other companies. For example Intel had illegal rebates and penalties imposed upon original equpped manufacturers like HP and Dell to use just Intel products in attempt to cut AMD out of the market. They even paid HP a large amount of money to delay the release of one of their laptop lines by 6 months because they were AMD-based. This put Intel in trouble with South Korea and the European Union, they were fined $1.44 billion by the EU and were successfully sued by AMD for $1.25 billion. This sort of sneaky unfair practice has happened quite a lot and will probably continue until they create a monopoly.

I had always used the Intel/NVIDIA combo until I watched an interview with Intel's CEO where he said something along the lines of "we don't like it when the competition cry because they can't keep up" relating to the lawsuit. As a guy who loves to see competition that really ___ me off and that's when I started looking at the alternatives. I still have all the respect in the world for Intel's technological accomplishments and the quality of their product, just not for the senior management's business ethics. No beef with NVIDIA though.

I got my new rig for FFXIV and various other games.

Spec is:

AMD Phenom II X4 970
4Gb Samsung 1333mhz Ram
Nvidia GTX 470
Corsair TX 650 PSU.

It eats through FFXIV on its highest settings no problems at all and every other game I've thrown at it :) I also got a 22" iiyama monitor with it. Came to about £1k but is cheaper now.

PS: What do you think of FFXIV?

Thx for reply guys, just have few more questions before I order it, Can I upgrades things like ram, graphics card in future? and is Processor Cooling:
STANDARD AMD CPU COOLER good enough or would better one make a differences?

PS: ff14 is good always been fan of final fantasy series:) I try it on friend computer and like it cause my computer couldn't run it lol

Yes you will be able to upgrade any component in the future and yes the standard AMD cooler is good enough unless you plan to overclock or want it super quiet.

I love the FF series but recent games really have left it all feeling rather hollow. I played 11 for quite some time but in the end got fed up of the uber grind fest. It seems 14 has started that way :S

I've never really been interested in the MMORPG Final Fantasy games, I loved Final Fantasy X though (still my favourite game of all time!).

Yeah know what you mean, been playing a couple of hours tonight, first time in about 3 weeks. Difficult to get into properly. DC Universe Online does look awesome but I've only seen the theatrical trailer for it not any gameplay footage. I'm eagerly waiting for Starwars: The Old Republic :)
