Today the monitor for my new rig came today. As a test, to see if there was no damage and that it would work, I connected it to my laptop with a 980m. Bearing in the mind the 4k monitor has a refresh rate at 120hz, for some reason it was stuck on 60hz. it not the end of the world since i wont be using it with this laptop. I just wanted to check that it wasn't underlying issue with the monitor more likely me just being a noob.

I have plugged it in via dpi, used cable supplied, had what I'm assuming is the DPI logo (also had 8k written on it ).

Dunno what more information you guys could need.

Thank you.

When you say dpi do you mean DP? You need a DP 1.4 cable and connector to support full resolution/refresh rate.
What laptop are you using?
You might need to change a setting on the monitor itself to select 120Hz or you might be able to select it via nVidia control panel?

that's right I mean DP, I've checked the monitor and the nvdia control panel.

I think I've found the problem. This is the laptop I brought from PCSPECIALIST ages ago is Octane Series: 17.3" Matte Full HD IPS LED Widescreen (1920x1080). From the invoice page on the site it list the port specs as follows
Ports
HDMI Ports1
LAN1 x RJ-45 jack
USB3 x USB 3.0 ports, 1 x USB 3.1 port
USB/e-SATA1 x eSATA/USB 3.0 combo port
Display2 x Display port 1.2 (One DP output will be off when Thunderbolt is enabled)
Microphone-IN1
Headphone-OUT1
DC-in1
S/PDIF1 x S/PDIF Out
Kensington LockYes
ThunderboltYes (via USB 3.1 Port)

I had a look online DP 1.2 only supports 60hz at 4k. right? . So its my laptop that's the problem.
