Advice: HDD monitoring/alert software

Hello!

I need to monitor about 200+ machines for HDD failures. I've had a large number fail in recent months (dodgy batch, going back to manufacturer) and I'd like to try and catch failures before they occur.

The most important requirement is it must be able to automatically send alerts via email when it detects degradation AND contain the machine name in the alert (so I know which one it is that's failing).

I'm currently testing out Acronis Drive Monitor:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/hard-drive-health/

It seems to be working well. I've received an email alert to indicate that a HDD has dropped below the 70% health threshold to 53% and the email contains the machine name. The thing is, before I start relying on these emails I need to determine how 'accurate' they are. Does 53% mean it needs replacing? When DOES it need replacing? Also, from looking on their website it seems there hasn't been an update in a few years, plus their forum is no longer actively monitored by one of their moderators. So I'm a bit unsure whether or not to use it.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend any (free) software that will do the same thing, or perhaps advise me on how reliable this software seems in your opinion?

Thanks :)

I suppose what I'm asking is:

a) What are your thoughts on Acronis? and...
b) Can you recommend any others that you have personal experience of?
