AMD AM3 Build

So much for AM3+... the announcement was just made that AM3+ will require a totally new motherboard.

Torn into two between choosing an AMD X6 1090T build and an Intel i7 930 build after AMD's Bulldozer announcement.

I will also be shipping my own OS and secondary HDD(SATA III 1TB) as they're much cheaper back East.

Thanks for the comment... might up it to 8GBs of RAM though, seeing as I've already bought my 64-bit Win 7 Pro. Rest of it is bog-standard so I removed them from the build that was specified.

Quick question...

If I order the Iiyama 24" LED HD monitor, do I still need to order a DVI-D cable or does that come already bundled together with the monitor?

Hey Aoshi,

What do you plan on using the PC for? With the specification you have put together, it might be worth getting one of the Corsair PSUs - TX650 or TX750? Or if you plan on adding a second GPU in the future I would probably say the TX850 just to be on the safe side!

misterdave> Sweet... that'll save me 5 quid on the DVI-D.

meds> Mainly gaming/photo-editing(photography's a hobby of mine including PC gaming) and maybe video editing.

Sadly the board doesn't come with dual SLi or Crossfire. Dual GPU setups are somewhat out of my budget unless you can suggest something else.

I could always build a Crossfire system. Leave the GPU out for later but would have to skimp on the RAM. But Pc tech is always moving ahead and I don't really see the need to bump up the GPUs to two if I can't stick in a new proc to take advantage of all that juice.

It's a trade-off... more RAM less GPU or more GPU less RAM. LOL~

Updated it slightly... went down a size on the HD LED Monitor... I'm already using a 20" at home and I figured what the heck... I quite like the size so 24" is kind of not what I want. Too massive!

Updated both non-Crossfire and Crossfire. Am deciding to go with the HD5870 for now although guru3D benchmarks and tests show that the GTX470 is slightly better than the 5870.

If it was the non-SLi/Crossfire build... I'd most prob go with the GTX470.
