1) What's the budget?

2) What price did that system come to?

3) What monitor are you gaming on? What resolution and refresh rate.

4) If you are getting a new monitor, what is the budget and when are you looking to buy it?

Other than Total War games, and other intensive games potentially, what are you using it for? Any specific software?

Hi the PC is £1997 inc VAT, budget was around £2000, didnt mind going over a little. im not planning on getting a monitor atm, gonna hook it up to my TV and get a wireless keyboard.

as i say im mainly looking to play RTS games although modding skyrim could be fun, hoping it will be future proofed so that if any new RTS come out in future i can run it.

software that il use would be like recording software, into my music so gonna install my old recording software, just an 8 track version of propellerhead but may look to other softwares in future

its HD, 48" i think, defo 40-something" im quite happy playing R6 siege on the playstation so not really planning on doing much competitive gaming. if i do then i would probs get a monitor and a desk to set it on

If it's an HD TV then the system is major overkill (not in the sense of "futureproof" or "powerful" - just a waste). So good news in that you can get something that will do the job well for a lot less cash. :)

Just to make the point, a good monitor isn't about competitive gaming, it's about the resolution and responsiveness of the screen.

Higher resolutions mean more pixels, which mean a more detailed image. You're presumably running TW battles at ultra to admire the great graphics. Resolution is a graphics setting, just like "low" vs "ultra" is for shadows, or unit detail, or suchlike. It's the most basic and important graphics setting.

Similarly, a responsive screen and/or high refresh rate screen makes the image look smoother as the transitions between each frame are faster.

The below spec is overkill for 1080p (arguably still very wasteful, though about £600 less wasteful that the opening spec) and would make a good 1440p gaming PC.

- Don't bother with the extra case fans.
- Don't spend so much on the motherboard. All the Z390s are expensive, no point paying for features you won't use. You're not an enthusiast overclocker
- RTX 2060 Super should handle even Three Kingdoms on ultra decently at 1080p
- 32gb RAM is a complete waste - no point for gaming, even at 4k.
- more efficient and better quality power supply

There's not really much point (if any at all?) to an i7 9700k over an R5 3600 for 1080p gaming.
Unless you play modded Fallout 4, and are well into it. Modded Skyrim Special Edition is unlikely to care as despite being the same engine as FO4, it doesn't have huge ruined cities with the shadows and terrain detail that involves.

A 2060 Super is technically fitting for Three Kingdoms on Ultra at 1080p. But tbh that's a bit like saying you're going to play Witcher 2 with Ubersampling turned on. The more intelligent thing to do would be to manage the settings sensibly, turning down things that have little impact on visual fidelity but a huge impact on performance, and buy a GPU half the price.

For 1080p gaming with sensible management of settings and no niche modded Fallout 4 or other CPU-bound and poorly optimised games (even TW is not that CPU bound, nowhere close)
