Asus anti-surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply

The title is essentially it. Emergency restarts started a few hours ago. PC's 3 years old, built by PC specialist with no previous issues where the PSU is concerned. Opened up the case and checked all the connections were secure, no issues there. There are also no problems at all on reboot or general use, however when i fire up games the problems start. The time it takes for an emergency restart to occur varies, ranging from less than a minute all the way up to 30 minutes into the round. Much of what i find on the internet seems to be somewhat contradictory, some even suggesting turning off the Asus anti surge protection which just seems insane. Anyway, somewhat of a loss at what to do going forward, hoping i don't have to replace the PSU as i haven't wired a PC since college, and after 12 years i cannot say i remember much :/

This is a bug in ASUS anti surge technology, it causes more issues than it prevents and so long as you’ve got protection on your mains, it’s worth disabling anti surge in the bios.

Ok, so there is no possibility of it being a PSU problem? Also what then would protect the rest of the PC from any form of surge from the PSU itself? I am not in a position to replace my PC should it melt :/

A surge protector should be used on any pc.

Asus anti surge doesn’t offer any particular protection, just merely flags alarms.

I've had Asus 'surge protection' trigger false positives on one of our PCs.

It also threw errors when there was a problem if I recall.

So it's not telling you anything, basically. Kind of like a broken clock being right twice a day.

Probably the easiest way to check if there definitely are issues with your system is to switch the Asus anti-surge off and see if you get restarts.

What's your full spec? You can copy and paste it from your PCS account. PSU may still be in warranty (not with PCS, but with the manufacturer) and they could talk you through options if so. Ofc PCS would still be happy to talk you through too I'm sure.

Yeah i think i'm just going to have to speak to them, although i know my 3 year warranty ran out in September of this year.

But yeah, stripped out the old PSU and put in another i had spare, still shuts down when gaming. Switched off Asus Anti Surge Protection, instead of shutting down the screen goes black with no signal, yet the PC was still running as i could hear people in my TS, which would suggest its my GPU?

Anyway, heres the spec's:
