Hi,

I can't find any users with that IP address but I'll inform the site admins so they are aware. Cheers for raising it.

Had something similar as well, received this email from PCs

Someone has tried to log into your account on PC Specialist Forums with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 89.105.194.80

All the best,

I've also had the 'attempted login' email for IP address 46.182.106.190

I Googled the IP address & it seems to be a malicious hacking attempt from the Netherlands.

Please block this person.

Thanks

The addresses posted by Rich and stevie both come up as a tor exit node. For whatever reason some kids are probably trying to be l33t hax0rs by hiding behind tor and randomly trying passwords.

I wouldn't be overly worried unless you have an easy to guess password.

I work for a web hosting firm and we get hammered with this problem all the time, it's not unique to PC Specialist nor is it indicative of a security issue. The likely cause is automated bots are trying to get access to random accounts to post spam. As long as your password is secure, everything will be fine. There is very little PC Specialist can do to prevent it.

Noticed the e-mail myself, and decided it was time to come back from my hiatus to the PC Specialist forums. Though as bbcnk mentioned, it certainly isn't anything major and does happen all the time to servers on the internet by botnets attempting to get lucky. If you use the same password on multiple sites and have a weak password though, you're asking for trouble.
