Automatic backup method to access files whenever

I have just bought a 2TB external hard drive to back up what is currently 800GB of data on my laptop. My aim is to backup all data currently stored on the laptop, and also automatically back up any new data that is saved onto the laptop. I also want to be able to access the backed up data whenever I want.

I have used the backup and restore feature on windows 10, however this saves all the backed up data as 'hard disk image file', and although this is great for if my laptop breaks, I can access the backed up data freely as it has all been saved in an inaccessible file format.

Can someone please explain to me how I can backup all current and new data automatically, in a way that is accessible anytime e.g taking external hard drive to friends how to share data.

Try Free File Sync.

You can set up which folders you want copied and whether you want versioning. You can run it manually whenever you want or set it up to run automatically whenever it detects changes to files in those folders I believe.

You might want to take an image of your machine too. Makes recovery much simpler down the line
