Bit of a strange build, any help much appreciated

Hi,

I'm in need of an Upgrade. Have to run some program overnight most days, where the bottleneck is ram and cores. Grafics are not too important but running emulators seem to require quite a bit!? and will occasionally play some games but no high end shooters. Is there anything I'm missing, worth an upgrade or unnecessary?

Have a 30 inch Dell 3011 atm but might get a 40 inch as well or would be using 2 30s

Cheers

Hi moe127,

How much ram do you currently have right now?

There was a very similar discussion earlier this week where the op didn't listen to the advice that was being offered. Here is a link to it...

The advice from me would be pretty much the same. The base of the system needs to be FAR better to cover the might of the 3950X.

Your choices are a mile under for case, motherboard and cooling.

Sorry I meant the word "Upgrade" not like I'm upgrading an existing Desktop. To clarify, atm just using a laptop which doesnt do the job I'd like so am looking for a brand new Desktop

Thx for your input, what would you recommend?

This is the updated build, is there anything else I should take into consideration?

was wondering if the H115i Pro ultra quiet would also work as well or if I should stick to the platinum, as the pc will be running massive hours.

Also does the GPU work with my screen? ( 2560x1600 /59 hz )
using these settings during work but could adjust for gaming.

Cheers

Cooler: Stick with the Platinum...the Pro version is an old version and has a less efficient heatsink. You can, however, remove the thermal paste as the cooler comes with high-grade paste pre-applied from the factory.

Hard Drive: You really need want a faster primary drive...an M2 drive is the standard for any system nowadays. SSDs have very much been surpassed

Thx, quiet sounded better :)

M2? Had a look in the specs, but not sure what you could mean.

In the Hard drives section of the configurator, underneath the "2nd Storage Drive" menu, you will find 1st M2 SSD drive as an option...you will find the M2 drives there. Recommended to get a 500GB option as a minimum so you can fit Windows plus your programs etc on it

ah yeah, would just a M2 work or would I need another storage ? Im assuming its basically the same as an ssd, just better. Had a read and didnt get the term "meeting budget"

"Quote Guys i have a question can you run your PC with only M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD or you need another one normal SSD

Yes you can.
It's just another drive.

Space needs meeting budget, of course"

will need to run a database software

Means get the space you can according to your budget, so if it costs too much then reduce the size. We would recommend 500gb as a minimum for an OS drive.

An M2 is just a modern SATA SSD, they’re much much smaller and up to 10x faster for around the same cost.
