That's a very good synopsis, and I especially like the intrinsic cost of mining in energy and carbon terms. Puts it in perspective.
The Blockchain I think however is without shadow of a doubt a remarkable technology with infinite applications, that's where we should be focussing (and a lot are).

Same here. I have a few friends who have invested, but I always turned down the chance as I wondered if there was something a little "off" about Bitcoin.

I'd never invest in it, but I did put £100 in it to pay for something a few years back.
It was only when I checked recently (had forgotten, but an update to a wallet app prompted me to check) that I realised I had multiple times what I'd originally put in.
Bought it at about £4800/btc and sold most of what was left (kept £100 in) at about £25800/btc last year. I've spent some of it, but my current balance in £134.
