Brand New configured Elimina ii 15 screen flickering

Hi,

So I got my new Elimina ii 15 just last week. Didn't get to use it much or set up until this weekend.
I was getting all the softwares, updated etc.. I needed on the laptop when I realised a new Windows update is required. Like usual I downloaded the update and it required me to restart the laptop. When I restarted the laptop that's when the problem appeared. The screen started clickering like in horror movies.
And it wouldn't get past that flickering. So I had to press the on button to shut it down and start again. But this time it started up normal, however I still needed to restart my computer to finish the computer update and the same happens again.

Anyone got any ideas why this is happening? Should I ask pcspecialist to have a look at it?

I have attached the a gif which is like a 0.6 sec of the video. Didn't know how else to show what's happening.

Cheers!

I would recommend contacting PC Specialist. I recently had screen flickering problems with a new laptop (although a different model to yours and not as extreme as your example) and sent it back to them. They changed the motherboard but that unfortunately didn't fix the issue, so I sent it back again and they did a complete rebuild. So far that seems to have fixed the issue, so it seems it was a problem with the physical screen itself.

I guess it's plausible that your screen is faulty like mine was.

Yeah I was thinking to contact them about it but since it's new I didn't want to send it back if I could avoid it but well I guess still best to let them fix it.

thank you

I had a similar problem with an update from Windows update for the iGPU (Radeon 8) 1 month ago. Later I discover that the update was not stable (the Radeon software didn't show me any update, only windows update show it) and I reinstall the correct driver with the AMD driver autodetect toll and resolve every problem with the screen. I don't know if this is the same problem but before send it back I'd try to reinstall all the GPU's driver.

This issue seems to have happened after a Windows update. Does that mean it was working fine prior to the update?

If that's the case then try uninstalling the update or, better still, do a clean reinstall of Windows from bootable media and allow Windows Update to install all updates.

well it seems like the update has finished updating now. I haven't tried restarting my laptop but I will try again later and see if the problem still occurs again.

I haven't used the laptop much so I actually didn't restart the laptop prior to the update so I can't tell if the problem with the screen was present from the start or not.

Was this a long update where it restarted a couple of times?

So I restarted my laptop a few times and it's pretty random when the screen flickers. I checked Windows update and I saw I still have another one. See below
Capture.PNG

So after I did that update, the flickering is still there but it seems random. But it's fine when I shut down and start the laptop. Only the restart gives me problems for some reasons. I have also downloaded the optional updates.

Next, I will try to update the drivers as Vergaro mentioned and see if that helps.

You need to install the optional updates also.

Does it happen outside windows or only once you’ve logged on?
once I'm logged on it seems fine. only occurs during restart.
Well after I downloaded the Geforce RTX drivers it seems fine now?
I did a couple of restarts after installing the driver, the screen didn't flicker anymore. But I will give it some time and keep restarting at different times to keep an eye on it and see if it happens again because if it does the issue reoccurs, I will ask PCS to have a look instead.

I also recommend to install the last driver for the iGPU not only for the dGPU. If you already update that ignore this message.

@Rama930 can you post the full spec from the order please?

So this only occurs after a restart?

Do you have the Fast Startup option turned off? If not please turn it off.

Restart is a lot more of a complex process in Windows 10 than shutdown is if you have Fast Startup turned on. In addition, shutdown just shuts down, whereas restart does a bit of troubleshooting (completing updates for example) so my guess would be that there's a driver there (and almost certainly a graphics driver) that isn't properly installed. It is intact enough to be initialised on startup after a shutdown but a restart traps whatever the problem the driver has and it doesn't get properly initialised. Possibly....

If you don't boot your pc directly in "dGPU only" it starts by using both the GPU and it will automatically choose which one to use based on the type of operation. So in normal use it boot by using the iGPU and not the dGPU.
