BSOD - Critical Process Died - Related to Control centre?

Hi all,

This morning I started my laptop as normal and kept crashing to BSOD as in title, with the error "critical process died".

I've followed all reccomended fixes including hardware and device troubleshooting tool, system file checker, and DISM restore health through the command prompt. Each with no results found. It loaded up correctly through safe mode with networking, faulted when rolling back to a restore point.

I've now reinstalled a fresh version of windows which works up until the point I attempt to install the control centre, at which point my laptop crashes to BSOD.

The below is a copy paste of my laptop. Has anyone experienced the same issue or have any other suggestions?

When you reinstalled Windows did you allow Windows Update to install all drivers or did you install them manually from somewhere else?

I allowed windows to fully reinstall, no other drivers have been installed. I initially downloaded the control center from a link sent to me by pc specialist support: https://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download/ftpout_download.asp?sno=10026&no=3 due to the link in my account not being complete. Since I installed the control centre my laptop now has the bsod after logging in to windows.
You’ll need to download control center from www.clevo.com.tw for the latest version.

The clevo model number of your laptop will be on the underside.

Have you checked windows update is fully up to date?

I'll have to do a fresh install again to check, once I've tried an updated control centre I'll let you know if it resolves anything.

Be sure to install Windows by booting installation media, don't do a Windows Refresh. Once Windows is installed run Windows Update repeatedly until no more updates are found. Only then install Control Center from the Clevo link above.

When doing a fresh install do it from the installation media direct from Microsoft, don’t do it from a reset within windows.

If you follow the above advice and are still getting the same problem it might be worth trying to run a full scan on the HDD you're installing windows on to ensure there aren't any bad sectors. At this point I'd think HDD failure is unlikely (as if the HDD was failing I don't think windows installation would complete at all) but it would be worth confirming before going any further.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been overly busy.
So I've completed a full fresh installation on the the SSD, updated all drivers and window updates. Whenever I try to run anything other than an internet browser it returns to bsod "critical process died" then reboots on a black screen stating "reboot and select proper boot device".

At this point I've tried SFC scan now and run dism, to which windows state it has fixed any/ all errors. It has fixed nothing, so unsure where to go from here if there are any other suggestions?

Also, I've ran virus scans and have had no hits.

Have you run a chkdsk on the c drive?

I've scanned both drives and each have found no problems.

At this point I'm leaning toward potential hardware failure, whilst the HDD is new, the SSD is original so could be due an upgrade/ replacement.

Never assume, first rule in computing.

2 last things you can try:

1/. Move the SSD to another SATA port just to determine if it may be a problematic port. **If you have one on that chassis**
2/. Install crystaldiskinfo and check the SMART status of the drive, should show any issues:

How are you installing drivers? The best way is to let windows install all through windows update, then manually install latest nvidia and control center. If you're installing from PCS or clevo download page, that may well contribute to this kind of BSOD if the driver is incompatible.

Unfortunately crystal disk info is the worst culprit for causing the crashing. I've tried installing and running on both drives.

I've used driver booster to download/ install all driver updates.

I've used driver booster to download/ install all driver updates.
And that answers the question I asked in post #2. Third-party driver search and install tools should never be used, you can't be sure of the provenance of the drivers being installed, nor can you be certain that the right drivers are being selected. Use either Windows Update, the drivers in your PCS account, or drivers from the hardware manufacturer's website, and from nowhere else. Drivers do not usually need regular updating either....

That said, it does now look to me more like a hardware issue, especially if you did a clean reinstall as you said in post #12 and you still have issues. I would call PCS now and discuss this with them. My guess is that it will need to go back for an RMA.
