Hi,

I need to use a variety of quite complex disability related software which tends to use up a lot of memory, power, processor time etc. I have 32Gb of memory I can move from my existing machine but I want something that is as quiet as possible. I also need to attach 3 monitors (bit blind).

My top budget is £1200. All help appreciated,

Phillip

We love you Ukraine
Any reason for that GPU? Are you using hardware acceleration?

What resolution are your screens?

Are you sure your existing memory is DDR4? If it's an older machine, it won't be compatible with modern motherboards.

Ah, I have a Z97-K motherboard so I think I have 32GB of DDR3.

The screens are 4k. I couldn't seem to find a GPU that could cope with three HDMI screens without mucking around with VGA and DVI and HDMI.

Advice is really welcome.

Hi,

I want to get a new PC to upgrade my old one. I currently have a Z97K motherboard with an I5-4690 and 32 Gb of DDR3. I don't need any hard drives as I will just move my SSDs over to the new machine.

Key things that I need...
1. It needs to be able to support three HD monitors
2. It needs to be as quiet as possible
3. It needs to be able to cope with some complex disability related software - I use my PC for all my communication (voice control, specialist keyboards etc) so it needs to be uber reliable
4. It needs to be powerful enough to do Video Editing and not spend hours rendering.

I have a budget of £1200 max.

Go for it!

Then unfortunately you can't use that with the new PC. It's just not compatible with modern motherboards, and hasn't been since around 2015.

Just to say
1. It needs to be able to support three HD monitors
You said in a post above that the monitors are 4k. That's usually referred to as UHD. HD is 1080p. Not trying to be pedantic, just flagging for clarity in case someone suggests a spec that only does 3x HD monitors instead of 3 x 4k.

4. It needs to be powerful enough to do Video Editing and not spend hours rendering.
That Quadro card is literally just to output video. It's a 30W card. It's not going to get you far at all for GPU acceleration in video editing. An RX 570 on the other hand will smoke it in just about everything, and typically has 3 DP, 1 HDMI 2.0, and 1 DVI. You can ask PCS which model of 570 they are using currently, but the chances are that whatever model they are using, those are the outputs it has. More than enough for your needs.

The V200 case us not great for airflow. And adding more fans to it doesn't really help (if you end up with negative pressure, it arguably makes things worse as you end up with a dustier PC faster). The Fractal Define S would be ideal, or the Fractal R6, but PCS have stopped doing those very recently. Instead, the Meshify S2 is an option.

The airflow is great and it's actually a relatively quiet case. The only down side is the price, but it still fits in your budget.

Or you could use the Send in your own case feature, and ship PCS a Fractal Define S purchased elsewhere.

i9 CPUs are very expensive and not really much better than AMD's R7 3700x, which is outstanding. The motherboards have some less expensive options too, which is handy because you apparently need to buy 32gb RAM too.

Much, much faster SSD.

Drop the sound card, as motherboard onboard audio is decent.

Noctua cooler is more effective and probably quieter too for a similar price

For i9 9900 vs 3700x in multithreaded tasks (like video editing) see:

(and note the CPU in your build was the 9900 non-k, which is slower than the -k)

No worries, glad it helped. :)

Do feel free to double check the RX 570 model they are selling. I can't think of an RX 570 that wouldn't support 3 x 4k monitors, but if it's an essential criterion for you, you may wish to double check the model. If they tell you the model, we can always look up what it does monitors-wise.
