Choice of monitor, G9 or 4K ?

They appear to be a sales channel for Samsung Direct so should there be an issue then there's the web pages for support at https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/contact/

I did scour the web pages at PCSpecialist but could not find monitors for sale however I remember there being an option to add one when I specced my original order. If their sales director reads this forum then perhaps they will consider building an order facility. £1049 is a keen price so margins may be squeezed but to make a dollar, you have to turn a dollar.

I have just had a text confirming a 2 hour delivery window tomorrow so it's going to be better than Christmas with a 3080 machine arriving as well.

PCS do stock some monitors but they don’t really account for the new GPUs power for premium 4k 144hz or Superwide or even Ultrawide monitors.

It’s fine for more entry level 1080p builds but not so much at the higher end.

That's an example of a market in a gap instead of a gap in the market. Both are a commercial opportunity.
Absolutely agree, it's frustrating especially for those buying on finance where they don't really have the luxury of buying an expensive panel elsewhere. To combine the screen with the PC payments would be hugely beneficial.

How far do you sit away from your monitor? If you sit at your desk normally, then a large CX would not be advised....I have a 55" version and, if I am less than 2 feet away from it, the sheer size of the icons, words etc give me a headache...6-8 feet away and it is fine.

Ultimately, you can't compare them really....the G9 is a Superwide so gives you a lot more peripheral stuff that might be missed on a normal resolution monitor...plus it is 1440p. The CX, on the other hand, is a standard resolution but is 4k so graphics look better (in my opinion), text in games is much sharper...at least that is what I saw going from a 32" AOC 1440p monitor to the CX.

I bought the CX in preparation for the day, somewhere in the seemingly distant future where I could buy a new Xbox....however, the CX works very well for me as a second monitor...not to mention for watching 4k Blu-Rays etc
I actually sit 3 meters away (on the bed/couch). Obviously buying a G9 would mean changing the setup (which is not such a big issue). But the LG CX picture quality seems to be much better, atleast based on reading on other forums. Obviously concerned about burn-in (although would probably get burn-in insurance), but still not sure which one to go for!

The G9 arrived last night, a few hours after my PC. The G9 is incredible. I had a bit of a panic in that I used an HDMI cable as the high spec DP cable is on it's way from the South American river store. I switched the display to HDR and the screen went black. Get out of that one !

Fortunately, the G9 comes with a cheapo DP cable so swapping it over saved the day. It was a bit of a squeaky bum moment.

yeah i can remember when i first turned on my G5, with it connected with a DP cable and was greeted with a black screen, i found the menu and switched the monitor from HDMI to DP and breathed out :ROFLMAO:

The CX is excellent....I am still amazed by the clarity of everything, especially menu text and have had it for 3 months.

Not sure about burn-in or whether it is covered but I would recommend buying from Richer Sounds as, on a lot of TVs, they provide a 6 year guarantee. As to which one to go for, the 55" is cheaper than the 48" one....I have the 55" one and I am usually about 8 feet from the screen and it's perfect (well, it's a little big but the 48" one was £300 more):

JL gives burn-in warrantee for an extra fee so that's what I was thinking about. Also thinking of going for the 77 inch LG CX :D. But yeah comparing it with G9 (I know it isn't like for like of course)

It’s a bonkers screen, but yeah, you’d basically HAVE to use it with display port.

Which high end display port have you ordered, have you got a link?

i’m eventually going to be getting the G9 also and would like a quality DP cable to go with it which is why I ask.

It's not really possible to compare a 4k big screen TV and a Superwide 1440p monitor. Ultimately, it depoends what you do with the screen and system....if you play things like flight sims, then the G9 would be better due to the extra real estate meaning you see more peripheral things..also if you need lots of applications open on screen at once. On the other hand, if you play more mainstream games, then I would say the TV would be better purely because of the graphics at 4k.....I have both a 32" 1440p monitor and the 55" 4k CX sat side-by-side on my desk and the graphics difference is bigger than expected.

You also need to consider other factors as well: As it's a TV and may be used as such, are you going to want to watch Blu-Rays on it? Normal Blu-Rays look much better on the CX than my monitor (partly maybe to my monitor not being a high end one of course)....4k Blu-Rays are a whole 'nother level of Blu-Ray!

A final consideration: Do you need to view the screen from more than one angle? Due to the aggressive curve on the G9, viewing from multiple angles may not be good. For me, I need to be able to watch from both ends of my living room as the screen is also my TV watching medium.
Of course, that makes sense. Bought a PC for my wife already (waiting 40 odd days in pre-prod now) so will probably pair that with a G9, while I get a CX for my PC. Will definitely watch movies, shows etc (Netflix, Amazon etc have 4K services I think) so the CX would look really good. My current screen (an old Samsung 1080P 55 inch) has served me well as a PC screen for games/media for 12 years now, so the main adaptation to the CX would be related to burn-in I guess. Maybe the automatix brightness limiter as well (dunno if it will cause issues with browsing)

Am hoping for my wife's PC to come quickly, which will allow me to check how the G9 looks for her, and then finalize the decision!

I went for the JSAUX 8K DP 1.4. It gets plenty of 4 and 5 star reviews and appears to support very high refresh rates. Sadly, the South American river supplier has a delay so it will either arrive today or tomorrow.

Honestly I love my Samsung G9 and would never use another monitor again, I have played flight sim on it a few times and the experience is amazing and Sharp, owning 4K monitor also for my art work to I am more using my G9 now and it’s great for both gaming and production.

had this monitor since early October now and zero problems and dream to use.

I don’t play many games to be honest with you so maybe someone else can answer this for you.

I have really only played flight sim, and a few racing games on this monitor with insane results.

i did get watch dogs as free games but only played for half hour and got bored with it lol

I really mainly use my monitor for production work.

@Jamie85 if the image is too big, you can install Gimp (which is a reworked old version of photoshop)

Open the image in that, then go File / Export As, and then make sure you rename the file extension to a JPG, choose where to save to and click the export button at the bottom:

Then select the option box that says "show preview in image window" and you'll see the quality slider on the top changes the output file size shown just above the box you just checked. The maximum upload size for the site is 1MB, so just has to be under that. Nice free and easy :)
