Time for my trusty old PCS Pc to be retired and be replaced by something a bit more modern.

Budget is £2000 or under.

Planning to use it for gaming and editing GoPro footage, not currently using high resolution displays, but will definitely be looking to do so in the next 3 months or so.

Am I on the right track with this specc ?? Any suggestions for improvement ??

Cheers in advance

Looks great as it stands.

When you say high res display, are you talking 1440p or 4k? If 4k, you might want to rework things to aim for the GTX 1080 ti.

The case is quite large. Other high end ones like the Fractal Define S are not as huge, and also bit cheaper, but still offer very good performance. Obviously if you're going for the case because of the aesthetic or you need the size, then it's a good case.

Thanks for the response and comments.

99% certain I will only be looking at 1440p -- not sure the bank account (or wife) would allow me to stretch to 4k

Only went for that case, as they seem to have good feedback and as I'm currently using a HAF 932 the size is pretty similar and I was hoping to get similar cooling performance -- also, I have 2 WD Black drives in my current system that I might look at moving over, so wanted something with adequate room/bays.

Just need to crank out the overtime this month so I can get my order in at the end of May

Then your spec looks great for what you want it for.

For the sake of presenting options, it's worth bearing in mind you can get 4k gsync monitors for the same kind of price as 1440p gsync ones (sometimes a bit less in fact). By tweaking the storage and other bits it would be just about possible to squeeze a GTX 1080 ti in there:

1440p is still a very valid way to go, I'm just presenting 4k gaming as something that's not necessarily completely out of reach in terms of budget. :)

Thanks for that...thrown the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons with that specc...will have to do a bit more research on display prices and options I think.

Many Thanks

Will be putting my order in today or tomorrow with a couple of tweaks :

Worth upgrading the PSU to CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET for less load and therefore quieter running ?

Worth including NZXT SENTRY 3 FAN CONTROL to keep everything running cool ?

Nice monitors btw, will def be looking at a pair of those in a couple of months or so

The RMx is semi-passive which means it will run silently under lower loads. It's also better build quality than the CS. If you don't mind spending more on that, it's worth it. I'm very happy with my RMI (which is pretty similar).

Worth including NZXT SENTRY 3 FAN CONTROL to keep everything running cool ?
I would say no. The Fractal R5 has a basic built in fan controller anyway. By default the fans will run at full speed so an extra fan controller wouldn't make things any cooler afaik. The built in controller on the R5 lets you reduce the voltage to the fans, making them run slower and therefore quieter, on demand. The case is still going to be quieter with the fans at full speed than many other computers.

Nice monitors btw, will def be looking at a pair of those
If you mean a pair of gsync 4k monitors like the xb281hk there wouldn't be much point. Since you're only going to be gaming on one monitor, you'd only need the one gsync one. If you wanted a 2nd 4k monitor for web pages, youtube, etc then you could get a cheaper one without gsync.

Good point on the monitors - I already have a 27" Asus as my current primary screen, so that will be fine as a 2nd for browsing etc.

Will definitely go for the uprated Psu and drop the fan controller.

Many Thanks, much appreciated +rep :clap:

All ordered...now the wait begins
