Cooling & Primary Storage help

Hi all,

Ive posted on here recently, I am looking to build something to achieve this:

- Very quick
- Lightroom capable
- Multiple VMs (Mainly Windows 10/7 and some Linux)
- Some gaming at 1440p (if possible, if not, 1080p)

Budget: Recently raised to £1,500

I've put this spec together, although I intend to look at a zen 2 CPU when they become available on this site. I know this might come at a little more money but could be worth it potentially.

I have two main questions but im more than open to other ideas:
  • 1. I am trying to work out how much cooling if sufficient to keep temps reasonable and the system nice and quiet. Do I need extra case fans? Is the AIO 100X the best option for me & this case?

2. Is the PCIe storage I've selected worth it? it'll hold my OS and a couple of applications, 512gb is fine size wise. ( I already have larger mechanical drives ready for this system)

I'd honestly suggest waiting for Zen 2 to be out before sorting the rest of the spec.

This is because PCS's pricing and availability / component selection can and does change.

For instance the WD Black SSD is much faster than the Intel 760p, so I'd tell you to get one of those with the price difference being only £3. However if PCS stop selling the WD Black and your choice is a 760p or a 970 Evo (which for the sake of argument is by then £50 more) that becomes a different question.

And without knowing what the Zen 2 CPUs are like, who's to say what the most appropriate cooler choice will be.

In general terms, very fast storage sounds worth it for your uses (VMs esp)

It is very likely that you will want to get the fastest RAM possible. PCS's current pricing for 32gb 2933MHz RAM appears ... possibly somewhat steep... so hoping that will change too.
