core 2 duo or core i3?

So i recently bought my PC from here and am loving it. But my old laptop is pretty much dead on me right now so im looking to get a CHEAP replacement - with my budget being in the £300 region.

My question is how low on specs can i go with the laptop still being "decent"?
All i want it for is surfing, office, and the occasional light gaming (wc3 mainly).

So far im thinking:

integrated graphics
4gb ram
13" or 15" screen
250gb HDD, or maybe even smaller. i have 1tb on pc and 500gb external and wont be storing much on laptop
The big thing is the cpu, ideally id go for i3 but i know im not likely to get that for £300. So what CPU's are the next levels down. am i right in thinking core 2 duo? How well will that run, i just want it to be fairly speedy!

or should i go with AMD for budget spec? I have no idea on amd cpu's as all my research for pc was done on intel side.

thanks

We can't really offer anything this cheap I don't think...

I would stick with Intel where possible. Intel Pentium are acceptable as an entry level product.
