Hellow !

First, please accept the mandatory apologies for the english mistakes ^^"

Then, after a spec check for a friend, and me, now, i'm asking your help for my first sister (and be aware that i'll ask you the same for my other sister in the next month - because she don't have the same needs :D)

So, after the discovery of the very nice destian, i had a discussion with my sisters about it, and the two of them were really surprised.
And now, they want one.

So, this one is for my sister that is finishing her (his ?) phd far away, on an island (one of those in the pcs shipping list :D), and, as for me, she can't know where she will be next year.
She will play game, do work (like coding, VM, and huge data manipulation) and she hope to use it for something like 5 years
(That for the why a DTR and not a desktop)

For the budget, i think it's more or less maxed with the 2300 euros (include vat) because she might take the insurance and so, she need to have some money to pay it

And i have a question, is the 970 evo samsung ssd really better than the 670 intel ?
because it's not on the list but i think we may ask an "upgrade" as they have more or less the same spec

So, this a the spec i'm asking you to review, please ^^

I can't comment on your whole spec (laptops aren't really my thing) but with your specific question about the 970 Evo and the Intel 670p... They're pretty similar in most cases, except that they've been optimised slightly differently (in terms of queue depth, which you probably don't need to worry about). For performance you'll see very little difference. The significant difference is in terms of endurance: the 1TB 670p is guaranteed for 370TB of writes, whereas the 970 is rated for 600TB. You're unlikely to reach either of these in the lifetime of the machine (to reach the Intel's capacity you'd need to write around 350GB of data every day for three years).

Personally I'd be more than happy with the Intel (even though I have a 970 in my own machine).

Looks really good to me, the 3070 is the perfect tier for price / performance, 3080 doesn't actually give her more to make the price increase worthwhile IMHO. 5600x is an amazing processor, perfect for anything you throw at it.

I would personally stick with the intel as the secondary drive, the Samsung are very expensive and still gen 3 so capped at 3500mbs anyway.

But all in all its really well balanced, I wouldn't change a thing.

Thank you, I learned from the best here ;)

But, really, for the ssd ?
You're the second one to tell me that, do you think it will last at least 5 years ?
Or maybe it would be good to go for a 2to 980 ssd ?

What are you suing the second sss for?

Well, as I always saw you advice the use of 2 ssd, I though it was the best option
I think she will use the second ssd the first drive to the os, game and software and the second one for data storage

I just checked the price of one 2TO 980ssd, it would be to expensive, so, let's forget it ^^"

For the "personnal" use, yes
But it's likely that she will use it for a "professionnal" use too (and she's working with huge dna map, that can be over the GO each)
At least at the begining of any new contract i think ^^"

Sorry Tron - I mentioned the Samsung 970 as your second drive - not the 980 - there is only a £25 difference I think between the 2TB Samsung 970 and the 2TB Intel 670.

Now, the difference between the 1TO 970 and the 1TO intel is 34 euros
So, the 980 as primary drive is the best i think
As for the secondary drive, the question is, is the intel good (look like it's a "yes) or the 970 would do better (or it's not worthy to bother, as it would imply to overide the quotation by a pcs staff member and it would be downgraded by the pcie port)
