CPU bottleneck

Hey all,

just after some advice. I am a complete noob with pcs and diagnosing issues so hopefully somebody can give us a hand. When I'm playing any games the FPS tracker in game states a high framerate, however its so choppy and stutters a lot. My CPU is always at a 100% and my GPU stays under 10% for the most part. Is my CPU (i7-9700) bottlenecking my GPU (2080 super). Hopefully I can get some clarity as its been really frustrating since I got this PC.

Thanks.

Hi if you could pop your specs into a reply that would be really helpful (you can get them formatted nicely for the forums from your order page).

Is this for ALL games or just some games and are you doing anything else at the time (aka. streaming, recording, etc.)?

Thanks for the reply, Bullguard is not installed.

cheers
Just saw it in the spec, so thought I'd suggest uninstalling it as this is the type of problem it can cause.

Ok next check all the GPU connections, also the RAM looks slow

Also is everything on that 1 HDD

Hey,

My OS is on an SSD. i was thinking about going to 32gb RAM, any suggestions?

cheers
ok, where are the games, and what SSD is it, unless you're playing MSFS you probably wont need 32GB, however I'd suggest that you up the speed of the RAM to 3600MHz

if you log into your main account, select the order, scroll down you'll see an upgrade button, click on that and it will take you to an upgrade configurator, which will show all your options

What temps and clock speeds are you getting in game?
HWMonitor can log them for you if you have only 1 monitor.

All games installed on the SSD or HDD?

Latest drivers?

What games have the issue and what ones don't?

Thanks for the reply,

Yes my regular games are always installed on my SSD. Will check HWMonitor later. Drivers all up to date. I have been having this problem for over a year now and have tried most hot fixes. The most frustrating thing is downscaling my resolution to 1080p from 1440p makes no difference to stuttering. Surely this pc should easily be able to run anything on 1080p. I'm just baffled as to why the CPU usage is always very high (100%)

Not being funny but you sure you're using the 2080 super and not the integrated graphics, have you run the 3d mark firestrike benchmark on it

When checking it see if your clocks are boosting to 4.5-4.7Ghz or throttling. If your temps are that low I can't imagine it is but no harm to rule it out. You can run HWMonitor while the benchmark is ongoing.

Whats the idle usage when not gaming?

Downscaling to 1080p will usually put more stress onto the CPU and take some load off the GPU, I would stick to 1440p and put a frame cap 144hz.

This is all assuming you have the latest chipset,Windows and GPU drivers installed, I'm presuming you do as it's been going on for so long.

What games does this not affect?
