Hi everyone,
Got this PC in 2023, becoming ever so slightly concerned with my CPU temperatures when under load.

A while ago it was normal to hit between 70-80c, now it hits 100c on almost all cores when rendering in After Effects. Once it had finished it went straight back down to 50c. I noticed my AIO pump wasn't doing anything and was at 0rpm so I've had to switch it to the AIO_pump socket on my motherboard instead of cpu_fan, so now the pipe for that gets hot but alas, it's not enough and the CPU still hits very high temperatures. Currently idling between 45-55c, which is OK, but I'm worried about it under load. I'm guessing it throttles too.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Thanks! :)

Some AIOs get clogged even though they are supposed to be sealed systems. If you got the PC from PC Specialist you should contact them.

I would imagine that’ll be the Intel effect. Those 13th and 14th Gen processors are all completely broken.

I also think, and I stand to be corrected by someone else, that cooler is nowhere near sufficient enough to cool that chip, even if it was working as Intel intended.

You've probably killed the cooler by running it too hard for a year, with a cooler that is only suitable for an i5 when run with heavy workloads.

You may get away with just replacing the cooler (which you should be able to do under warranty), but 13/14th gen Intel's CPUs are broken anyway, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's some damage there too.

However, for an i9 (which are known to be very hot) you'd have needed a H150 version (3x120mm fans + 360mm radiator), so I'd pay for an upgrade myself.

Thank you both, you're right, when I bought this I should have looked into fans more, I just saw "liquid cooling" and "elite" and was thinking, hell yeah that's perfect. Lol. What would be the lowest budget I can get away with that would work for the i9? The h150 or something else.

Would you mind helping me?

I don't know that case very well, so don't know what fits...and it's not currently listed on the PCS website, so I can't find much about it.

That's one of the reasons we tend to recommend 'branded' cases over PCS white label versions, as you can go to the manufacturer's website and find out what fans/coolers/radiators fit and where...and whether tall RAM conflicts with that fitting.

But yes, a 360mm cooler (H150 in Corsair language) would be considered a minimum for an i9, and (if it fitted) a 420mm (H170) one!!!

In the picture you provided, the H150i Elite Capellix XT RGB (£156) is the cheapest option that PCS offer. The other H150i versions just add a different controller and/or LCD screen.

And I'm not sure if that would fit in that case, the prism II which i assume is the later version only takes 2*120 front and top

Yeah the H150 should do it.

Thanks guys, so should I look for a 360mm cooler?
Also, (excuse me tech illiteracy), since I work from home and having it sent to pcspecialist will take ages to come back, could I buy a good cooler off say, amazon, then bring it to a local shop to fit it? Or do PCS need to do it?

if you go to the spec in your orders page, you should be able to see what fans that case can take, i've a hunch the biggest it will take is 240

If it's still under warranty then there's an open case policy which means you can DIY it (i.e. YOU and not a local shop) or RMA it.

If it's not under warranty (other than the standard 3-year labour warranty) then you might be able to get a local shop to do it for you...but I think that may void the rest of the labour warranty, of course this also means you're not tied down to a Corsair AIO cooler (but that's a whole new level of decision making ;) ).

As Martin36 says, it 'should' fit unless there's a clearance issue with the radiator added to the fans...but you've not got overly-tall RGB RAM, so that gives a bit more space too.
