DA2 Demo

Anyone having problems with the Dragon Age 2 demo?

I haven't tried playing it at lower settings yet.. I really don't want to lol but it seems near enough unplayable at higher settings even with AA and Anisotropic filtering turned down to just x2.

The textures keep messing up depending on where I'm looking and I get all these broken black triangles all over the floor instead of the textures XD

Bleh.

Played it on the PS3, but it does look like it really should be played on the PC maxxed out as it wasn't giving it as much justice I dont think.

That demo has been downloaded over 1,000,000 times already. That's more than most games get in sales, absolutely crazy

Not played the Demo myself, too worried about major spoilers.

Theres no spoilers in it, so I wouldn't worry about it. It's mainly just to show you how it looks and plays tbh.

Played it again earlier but turned AA and AF off, runs perfectly and still looks fantastic. Hopefully the full game will be better optimised and those options work correctly :)

what did you think of the game ? i thought it was good; the chat system is complete rip from Mass Effect, i guess making it easier for consoles and you can't zoom out to an overhead.

You realise Bioware make Mass Effect as well? aha. Why re-invent the wheel, if something works well, use it. I thought it was good, it felt just the same as the first one, but I did like the new abilities page. Not as keen on them removing the auto level up for your other party members though, I prefer the AI assigning what it thinks is best for them.

I noticed they decided to keep the boss' really difficult still!

I liked it. Shame it was so short. Played it on both the PC and the Xbox now. PC definitely looks a whole lot better even without AA and AF but I actually prefer the control on xbox! Handy I suppose as I've had it pre-ordered on xbox since before I ordered my PC lol

Haven't played mage yet. Have given both warrior and rogue a go. Love the rogue, some awesome abilities :)

And hard bosses? You're just not playing it right :p ;) lol

yeah, i've played through ME 1&2 which i like a lot, looking forward to 3 at the end of the year. that doesn't mean i want dragon age to become a 3rd person shooter though. or be happy be happy with just another console port / after thought. the fact you can manage your character and party leveling & gear is what makes a good rpg i think. I'm disappointed that Dungeon Siege 3 has moved from party based into another Diablo clone.

i'm not sure what you mean about the boss being difficult, i think as you can't save they've intentionally made it fairly easy otherwise people (especially those new to dragon age) might get fed up not getting to the end of the demo and having to restart.

I liked it. Shame it was so short.
yeah, and also that the inventory etc is disabled - though you can swap weapons at that first corpse.

Personally I disagree, I have the signature edition of DA2 pre-ordered having enjoyed the first majorly however I am considering cancelling my pre-order after playing the demo. You can argue that as it's a demo it shouldn't be taken as a representation of the final game, yet as it is so close to release that it pretty much is a cut down version. My issues with DA2 gathered from the demo is the voice acting, the graphics (looks worse than DA1 on highest, and has a really shoddy framerate) and the gameplay. The gameplay feels somewhat broken, when taking on a Ogre and 9 hurlocks I expect it to be a challenge like in the original - not to sit around for 10 minutes hacking & slashing whilst my health regens almost instantly after every blow.

I liked the demo, a change from playing COD: Blackops

I did encounter some freezes and glitches but i encounter that anyways due to my gpu faulty (i did get an rma once but it seems the glitching and freezing has become less now but its still ther - i will try investigate futher and see whats problem before giving PCS a call).

Anyways, Im thinking of playing Dragon: Orgins (the 1st one im guessing) before buying D2. DO worth it?

I'd say so, especially as you can pick it up for under a tenner or the ultimate edition for under 15. http://billybargain.co.uk/games/search.php?title=dragon age&page=1&platform=

edit : be aware though that (for me at least) there are several weeks of gaming involved... just incase you're thinking of playing through and then buying DA2 on or near release date.... personally i'll be waiting a month for some reviews to be on the safe side and also save some cash, you just know it'll be down from £30 to £17 in next to no time.

Won't even let me use the DX11 features. Its selectable but I don't think its actually using it. Stupid thing. Not really bothered though as it is only a demo after all.

Ran perfectly on my laptop, the gameplay is superb, the interface was nicely minimalistic. The levelling system is neat, much like DAO.
It's nice to finally feel like you can do something special & powerful even if you're not a mage. I played the demo through as a rogue & felt like I wasn't having to spend all my time positioning myself behind things like in DAO & other similar titles.

I pre-ordered the game as soon as I finished playing the demo. A big factor is that it looked very pretty even with the limitations of my laptop.

Dohhhhh! Some mixed reviews of the game by people who have bought it....some say consolised, some say the story is not as good, characters are not as good, and some say its brilliant. If you appreciate its not going to be as epic as DA:O was then I think most people will enjoy it and it certainly looks prettier. If you have the game and are having trouble running it on an Nvidia card then I believe there is a patch that is "supposed" to correct any issues you may be having.

Personally I am midway through the ultimate edition of DA:O (on the 360, not the pc unfortunately) which is massive if you are not doing whole days slogs on it; and have loved every minute of it so will wait; but will buy DA2.

Most RPGs belong on the PC (of course imo...it was where it all started) so was disturbed to see so many reviews with people saying it has been once again made with the consoles in mind; too easy; too obvious; etc. I do find people are being more and more critical with reviews but i hope they're not right!

I have a 360 but believe most RPGs should satisfy the PC market primarily. One look at "Risen" (which is a fantastic game) and the way they have tried to port it onto the xbox 360 and you can see why! (If anyone wants a tough as nails rpg for the pc with gorgeous graphics; you can't go far wrong. The sequel is coming out soon so you can pick it up pretty cheap aswell. Highly recommended.)

anyone playing the full game ?

i snapped it up for £9.99 on Play.com, installed and played for a couple of hours, until it crashed - presumably the issues with an Nvidia cards (gtx460), if i have time tonight i'll turn off DX11 to see how that goes and then see about the latest drivers.

i've not played it enough to notice the limitations of replaying the same locations, it does look nice though and that's without the HD textures

Finished it on my old PC (just before I got the new one). Had no problems with the stability or owt. As for the game, I liked it. Its different from DA:O for sure, but not in a bad way or good way really.

If RPGs are your thing, its one of the best series of late.
