Decent headphones as a Christmas gift?

I'm looking to get my brother a decent set of earphones/headphones for Christmas as he listens to music pretty much non-stop and doesn't do a lot else. He's currently using some entry-level ipod ones I think.

I don't want to spend too much but I certainly don't want to be stingey - Definitely looking below £100 but hadn't decided how close to that figure I'd be willing to go. Just wanted suggestions really...

Can be any sort of design but I get the feeling he would find big headphones a bit too embarrassing to use in public but if they're really decent sound quality then perhaps he could have some just for when he's at home. I would buy him a set of speakers but I fear I would live to regret it... Just looking for ways to bring some life to music back into old music for him! I know I love listening to stuff with my Siberia V2's and they're not even really designed for music :D

Thanks in advice guys :)

Since I turned 18 I don't think either of my brothers have given me a Christmas or Birthday present that wasn't either Vodka (in a variety of flavours) or Southern Comfort (also in a variety of flavours) :)

Haha my brother's not like that (unfortunately)! He's not well at the moment so only really listens to music hence the idea of headphones, it's pretty difficult finding something he's not going to pawn in a months time either.. x)

Thanks for the input guys, I'll check out some of your suggestions. I'm definitely swaying towards proper headphones rather than earbud ones now but my budget will probably be closer to £50. Seen some nice sennheiser, sony and phillips ones that I'll look into a bit more. All this browsing is making me want some!

I've got a couple of high end head phones AKG - Q701 and some Denon ATH - Ad9000's which i use as my benchmark. These two are way too big to wear out and about so my go to phones are the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5Vi's http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Ears-SuperFi-5vi-Earphones/dp/B001TDKHVE/ref=tag_stp_s2_edpp_url and the one that i currently use are the UE 10's http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Ears-Triple-10-Earphones/dp/B000JFJDAE/ref=tag_stp_s2_edpp_url great build and very decent sounding. I've pimped mine up with custom ear buds molded to my ears which make them very comfy and help lock out a lot of unwanted noise, http://www.acscustom.com/uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=39&Itemid=90
