Defiance Laptop Overheating!!

I bought a Defiance laptop in March and I notice that the laptop is not cooling properly. The CPU temp is at 90 degrees whilst plugged in. It’s my second gaming laptop with this kind of fan software and I have created another RMA for a refund so I can get a different model. They said after the first return that they reapplied the thermal paste. Any ideas on fixes I can do to make the fans less noisy?

Are you sure windows is properly configured? It will overheat if the drivers are not properly configured as the management driver won't be able to correctly patch in to the relevant drivers.

I read on one forum that selecting intergrated graphics helps and only use the card when playing games.

You need to ensure that you have done a clean install of windows, it is fully configured and updated and then installed the control centre software for that laptop.

It's not overheating, 90 is perfectly normal for intel, but the cooling won't be working as intended if Windows isn't configured as control center won't be able to connect to the various drivers.

I can only speak from experience, but for whatever reason, opening the control centre seems to monitor/check temperatures seems to drive up the temperatures for reasons I can't explain. I'd personally advise monitoring your temperatures using HWInfo64. It's less resource intensive and it has a lot more details to work with: https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

Aside from that, summer weather + dust build up can cause temperatures to slowly creep up over time. Use a phone flash light and point it at the air vents, then check to see if there's potential dust clogging it up from the inside.

It’s not my first plastic gaming laptop I had. I’m looking at returning it and getting a more sturdy aluminium laptop that will make cooling better.

As said, if Windows isn't configured correctly cooling won't be working optimally, are you sure you've configured Windows correctly?

I installed all the drivers that was available to download. My laptop runs Windows 11 but the fans were also like that running Windows 10. Maybe I should go back to 10 see how it runs then.

Windows 11 is still in beta so drivers haven't been made for it yet, so it's pointless testing in there.

Absolutely. We can't troubleshoot a system that's not even released yet!

I assume you're a Windows Insider, so you should report all issues via the Feedback Hub.

If you installed them all from your PCS download page, that's not how you configure Windows 10. I'd strongly advise getting advice on how to properly clean install and configure windows as if not done properly you'll have various issues.

I don't think you're eligible for any refund as the laptop is working fine and it's well past your 14 day return window.
